Research News Roundup - May 2023

Highlights of this month’s newsletter include a brief bio of our newest team member, OOR announcements, tips, event notifications, and news from Leatherby Libraries.

Please join us in welcoming the newest member to our OOR team!

Jason Warner, Research Grants Analyst, is a graduate of SDSU with a degree in Finance. Before joining our office he worked in accounting and found his way into sponsored research. As a native OC resident, most days you can find him at the dog beach with his 6 year old Australian Shepherd mix, Luke, or spending time with friends and family. Fun fact, Jason is SCUBA certified and a former sailing instructor! Welcome to the team Jason!

Reminder! The Office of Sponsored Projects Services will be closed for Memorial Day (May 29). Any proposals that are due on May 29, 2023, need to be submitted in Cayuse ready for review no later than 9 a.m. on May 19.

Reminder! June 5th is deadline for many NIH proposals. To make sure your proposal is fully reviewed and submitted on time for this deadline, submitted your proposal in Cayuse ready for review no later than 9 a.m. on May 26.

Want to know what your colleagues’ work is all about?

New and Updated Policies Now Available On Our Website

New Policy Research Data Ownership
Various sponsoring agencies formulated data ownership, retention, and access policies. Chapman’s policy supports these federal requirements and, in the absence of any specific regulations, spells out the requirements for data ownership, retention, and access.

Updated Policy Faculty Start-Ups
Our office has updated the guidance regarding Faculty Start-Ups under the Financial Conflict of Interest guidance. This update provides clarification on faculty’s responsibilities and the wind-down process involving faculty inventions that are licensed to a faculty-owned start-up company.

Updated Policy Distribution and Use of Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Funds
Our office has updated the policy page on F&A distributions to PIs, schools, institutes, and centers to include additional background on what F&A is and Chapman’s significant investment in research. The revised page also includes additional examples of the allowable uses of F&A distributions.

All Office of Research Policies and guidance can be found HERE.
