Most-requested titles of 2023 so far

Get 'em while they're hot! These books are the most-requested books of the year so far - make sure your name is on the waiting list!

There are several ways you can place a hold on our items:

Birnam Wood

Eleanor Catton

A landslide has closed the Korowai Pass in the South Island of New Zealand, cutting off the town of Thorndike, leaving a sizable farm abandoned. This land offers an opportunity to Birnam Wood, a guerrilla gardening collective that plants crops wherever no one will notice. But they hadn’t figured on the enigmatic American billionaire Robert Lemoine, who also has an interest in the place. Can they trust him? And, as their ideals and ideologies are tested, can they trust each other?

Spare

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex

As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling - and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last. With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

Arriving in May 2023: Atlas: the story of Pa Salt

Lucinda Riley and Harry Whittaker

1928, Paris: A boy is found, moments from death, and taken in by a kindly family. But he refuses to speak a word about who he really is. In his heart, he knows the time will come where he must flee once more.

2008, the Aegean: The seven sisters are gathered together for the first time, on board the Titan to say a final goodbye to the enigmatic father they loved so dearly. These long-buried secrets may still have consequences for them today.

Lessons in Chemistry

Bonnie Garmus

Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. But it's the 1960s and despite the fact that she is a scientist, her peers are very unscientific when it comes to equality. The only good thing to happen to her is a run-in with her super-star colleague Calvin Evans. Theirs is true chemistry.

But as events are never as predictable as chemical reactions, three years later Elizabeth Zott is an unwed, single mother and the star of America's most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Elizabeth isn't just teaching women how to cook, she's teaching them how to change the status quo.

Arriving soon: Someone Else's Shoes

Jojo Moyes

A story of mix-ups, mess-ups and making the most of second chances. Nisha lives the globetrotting life of the seriously wealthy, until her husband inexplicably cuts her off entirely. She doesn't even have the shoes she was, until a moment ago, standing in.

That's because Sam - struggling to keep herself and her family afloat - has accidentally taken Nisha's gym bag. Now Nisha's got nothing. Nisha wants her life back - and she'll start with her shoes.

The Bullet That Missed

Richard Osman

Trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club is concerned. A decade-old cold case leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers. As the cold case turns red hot, Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), while Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim chase down clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?

Check out the first two books in the Thursday Murder Club series - The Thursday Murder Club and The Man Who Died Twice. The next book in the series, The Last Devil to Die, will be released later this year.

Were your reading plans thwarted by rain and road closures?

Phew! We've had a tough Febraury here on the Coromandel. Between the floods, slips and road closures, it's easy for library books to slip your mind.

If you can't get your books back in time, let us know before they become overdue.

  • Renew them using the TCDC Libraries app, or our online catalogue.
  • Phone or email any of our three District Libraries, and one of our team members can renew your items for you.
  • Remember, apart from our Kit Collection, our items can be returned to any of our libraries. You can return items to Tairua Library, Thames Library or Mercury Bay Library. Our friends at Coromandel Community Library can also accept returned items on our behalf (although it's best to chat with them first, as they are not a District Library).
  • If you think you've lost a book, get in touch with us as soon as possible.
