Construction Sector Accord Beacons Awards 202319 Sept 2023 Congratulations to the winners and all those involved.
The inaugural Beacons awards were run in 2021 as an online option at the Building Nations event, due to the Covid restrictions at the time. This year the Construction Sector Accord was fortunate to be able to run this event live, due to the support of Waihanga Ara Rau, Workforce Development Council for construction and infrastructure. The awards were held in the evening of the
sold-out workforce leadership development summit, Thriving people, Thriving industry, on September 6, 2023. The audiences for both events were strategically aligned, which encouraged many attendees for the summit to register for both events. Watch the short event highlights video for the summit With the opportunity to run these awards live as an evening gala style event, the organising team were inspired to offer a wider opportunity for the sector to
participate through a new open nominations category. Adding an open category to these awards gave more organisations the chance to share the good mahi going on in their businesses, alongside the Accord’s existing Beacons case studies. Ten open category finalists were identified from over forty open nominations, taking the total finalist pool to nineteen. Judging was tough, as there were so many examples of good practice in the sector through both categories. Choosing the winners came down to the wire in some cases. “It was a privilege to be part of the Beacon Awards, which celebrated the great work being done in the construction and infrastructure sector. The Beacons Awards have come of age and truly represent the passion and determination to move the sector from good to great, reflected in the broad range of businesses and organisations who made it to be finalists and the many others who also submitted amazing projects. Congratulations to our winners, finalists and all our entrants, you are all beacons shining brightly to show the way forward.” Graham Burke,
Transformation Lead (People) – Construction Sector Accord

With a diverse crowd of over 240 people in attendance, the atmosphere was one of celebration, and recognition, with plenty of collaboration, sharing ideas and networking. The bar has certainly been set for future awards. “The idea behind Beacons is simple, we believe that businesses and organisations can learn most effectively from their peers.
The high calibre of finalists and winners participating in the Beacons Awards 2023 shows that there is plenty of great work happening going on in the construction sector. All entrants showcased various forms of industry best practice and a contribution towards the continuous improvement to help lift the performance of the industry – that is the vision of the accord.
