Construction at 41st Avenue & Blenheim Street: Pedestrian Safety Update

A new construction project is underway at the northwest corner of 41st Avenue and Blenheim Street — directly adjacent to our campus and along routes many students and families use daily. We want to keep you informed and reassure you that safety remains our priority.

The School has established an ongoing dialogue with Marcon, the construction company, to coordinate on traffic and pedestrian safety throughout the project.

What you should know:

  • Construction is expected to last approximately 29 months, wrapping up in fall 2028.
  • Marcon has received our drop-off, pick-up, and key event schedules, and will work to limit construction vehicle movement during peak times.
  • We have specifically discussed the pedestrian crossing at 41st and Blenheim as an area of concern. Marcon has confirmed that traffic control personnel will be on-site whenever construction vehicles enter or exit.

Want to learn more? Marcon has prepared a full Pedestrian Safety and Community Plan for the project, which we encourage you to review.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to us at traffic@croftonhouse.ca.

Gift Acceptance Policy

To help avoid an actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest for the employee and the School, Crofton House School employees may only accept gifts per section 3.3 Gift Acceptance Policy of the CHS Employee Handbook. Gifts should be reasonable, not exceeding $500 from one family per academic year. Employees are not able to accept cash. Please understand that if an employee refuses or returns a gift, they are following the School's policy. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Robinson, Director, Human Resources.

Emergency Preparedness: Earthquake Drill

On Tuesday, May 19, the Whole School practiced a calm, safe, and efficient evacuation from campus buildings. In the event of a real emergency, the School will notify you via phone, text and email, directing you to the School website for additional information and updates on student pick-up.

Grab & Go Closure

The Grab & Go will be closed in the afternoons on both Friday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 9, to support various on-campus events.

Celebrating Both Asian & Jewish Heritage Month in May

May marks both Asian Heritage Month and Jewish Heritage Month—an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of two rich and diverse cultures. Throughout the month, the Senior School library has curated a range of resources that invite students to explore, reflect, and learn. Parents and guardians are invited to engage with the Asian Heritage Month LibGuide and Jewish Heritage Month LibGuide.

Student Experience

Check out this week’s gallery for highlights from across campus, including Grade 4 gold panning with Yukon Dan, Senior School House performances, and the Grade 6–7 Spring Concert. You’ll also find moments from Junior and Senior Kindergarten students testing their teachers' hearing skills, the Grade 10 Ivy Compass Day, the CHS Alumnae Association Mother & Daughter Tea, and more!

Love Your Library

Last week was Love Your Library Week in the Junior School. Staff encouraged students to visit the Sherman Jen Learning Commons during lunchtime, with dozens of students leaping at the opportunity to snuggle down with a good book. Activities such as "build your own playing cards" added to the fun, reminding students that libraries are an amazing resource for knowledge, creativity, and inspiration.

Spirit Week in the Senior School

From May 19 to 22, laughter and smiles filled the hallways as students and staff participated in our annual CHS Spirit Week! In the Senior School, students enjoyed themed days such as You've Got A Friend In Me and Wacky Accessory Days, before ending the week with some friendly competition at Sports Day!

This edition, read about the BC Elementary Track & Field Meet for Grades 3-7 athletes, Sea to Sky Zone Championships for both the Senior School's varsity badminton team and track & field team, varsity golf's ISA Scramble, and the advanced rowers' trip to the Shawnigan Lake Regatta.

A Year in Review with the Parents’ Auxiliary

At the May 14 Annual General Meeting, the PA celebrated an incredible year of community connections and recognized the contributions of several dedicated volunteers. We also extend our sincere thanks to Morgan Pulkinen, Manager, Events & Rentals, the CHS Communications team, and the Facilities team for their ongoing support of PA initiatives throughout the year.

A special thank you also goes to Euan McGhee, Specialist, Communications, for beautifully capturing these memories and creating this wonderful highlight video featuring moments from May 2025 to the present. We hope you enjoy this short look back at a memorable year together!

An Afternoon of Appreciation at Crofton House

On May 21, Crofton House educators and staff were celebrated with a special luncheon in the Old Residence, featuring a thoughtfully curated menu, elegant floral arrangements and linens, and many personal touches that made the occasion especially memorable. Guests enjoyed a delicious spread including baked salmon, steak, sushi, butter chicken, and a variety of fresh salads, and each attendee took home locally sourced honey as a sweet token of appreciation. Many educators and school staff shared how much they look forward to this annual tradition, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the generosity and enthusiasm of CHS parents.

Thank you to everyone who supported the luncheon through their contributions and efforts, and a special thanks once again to event chairs Isabell Suk and Gitanjli Sood for their leadership and organization of this wonderful celebration.

Highlighting Our Volunteers: Leading by Example with Yan Zhang

For Yan Zhang (daughter Maggie, Grade 12), volunteering is more than an activity; it’s a way of life. Since arriving in Canada in 1999, she has remained deeply committed to helping others, including seven active years with Parents’ Auxiliary events at Crofton House. During that time, she has taken on several key leadership roles, such as Event Chair of Senior School Service Together and Student Engagement Coordinator, a member of the Winter Bazaar executive team.

Among her many memorable experiences, Yan highlights the 2025 Winter Bazaar, where the Student Entrepreneurship booth saw record participation and energy. Despite the long hours, she found it incredibly rewarding to support students as they shared their ideas. Read more.
