DKA in collaboration with local practice JOHNNY Architecture and engineers Wetzel & von Seht has been commissioned by the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Völklinge Hütte in Germany to rehabilitate its historic power station, Kraftwerk I. Völklinger Hütte is a rare surviving steelworks from the 19th and 20th centuries and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Standing testament to Europe’s rich industrial heritage, much of the vast 7.6-hectare former blast furnace site is now a museum as well as a location for festivals, performances, conferences, and other cultural events. Visit the new web page for more details here.

Our long-listed competition entry for the reconstruction of the Bornplatz Synagogue in Hamburg is now on our website here. The practice's first religous building proposal dealt with many challenging issues including questions of reconstruction, memory and appropriate architectural language. The practice is keen to build on this experience and work on other religious spaces.
