Banks Peninsula roading updatesCouncil contractors have repaired a significant amount of damage to the roads in Banks Peninsula following significant rainfall on 15 and 16 December 2021. We have continued to make steady progress in Banks Peninsula over the last fortnight. The inconsistent weather has seen some small elements of work delayed by a day or two. Despite the poor ground conditions over the last week, we anticipate reaching several project milestones before the Easter holiday. What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? There is now a track across the main drop out as well as access to the section of road that had slips below the main drop out. What still needs to be completed? Our contractors are still working on the road realignment. We have made significant progress to date and completion of this work will require good weather. Timeframe for completion We anticipate that the majority of earthworks across the main slip will be completed before Easter. A decision will be made in the following weeks regarding the opening of the road to the public. Realignment work is expected to take up to 6- 8 weeks from the beginning of the project. Work repairing the road dropouts will get underway in the coming weeks Timeframe for completion Road dropout repairs are now expected to take between 6 and 8 weeks due to unanticipated poor road conditions. What is the current state of the road? The road is now open to the public with long delays to be expected when works are occurring. Due to the narrow road and the ongoing risk of rock fall, especially in rain events, signs have been installed at the start of the road to warn motorists. Lavericks Ridge road Original damage Severe scouring and slips on Lavericks Ridge Road. What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? Work has begun on the third road dropout. Crews are also upgrading culverts. What still needs to be completed? There will be further work on this road to upgrade culverts and apply more metal.
