Announcing the new SDC DirectorThe Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender is pleased to announce the promotion of Felicia Salinas-Moniz, AMST Ph.D. '13 to Director. Please see the announcement below from Assistant Vice President for Campus Life Engagement, Loc Truong:I am delighted to announce that Dr. Felicia Salinas-Moniz has been promoted to Director of the Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender (SDCWG) effective Jan 3, 2022. Originally from Southern California, Felicia arrived at Brown in 2005 when she was admitted into the Graduate School. She received her M.A./Ph.D. in American Studies, with a focus on Comparative Ethnic Studies and Women of Color, Feminist Studies, Latinx Literature, and Race, Class, and Gender in American Popular Culture. Her dissertation “Latina Imprints and Impressions: A Study of Contemporary Popular Fiction for Latina Readers” engages in a critical analysis of the production and consumption of the “chica lit” genre. She has published her research in the journal Feminist Teacher and in the anthology Theorizing Ethnicity and Nationality in the Chick Lit Genre (Routledge, 2018) and she has taught at both Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design. Felicia is an Adjunct Visiting Assistant Professor of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Brown. During her doctoral studies, Felicia served as a graduate student coordinator at the Sarah Doyle Center and, while finalizing her dissertation, she began her professional career working at the Student Activities Office. She later transitioned to the SDCWG, where she has worked for the past 8 years under the mentorship of Gail Cohee. During this time, Felicia served in three different roles, first as a coordinator, followed by assistant director, and finally senior assistant director. As director, Felicia will join the student engagement leadership team to develop collaborations with the identity, community, and cultural centers, and partner with offices within the division and beyond. Felicia will work with me to develop the strategic vision for the SDCWG. Felicia will continue to build upon the strong feminist foundation created by generations of students and staff. During this transition period, Felicia will run a national search to fill the assistant director position. Please join me in congratulating Felicia on her promotion. Photo credit: Paul T. Warner |
