Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairWelcome to our February newsletter. We're currently drafting our 2020 - 2022 Community Board Plan which outlines our vision and priorities for the Fendalton-Waimari-Harewood community. This Plan will guide our decisions on local activities, projects and facilities over the next three years. We'd love to have your feedback. Have your say on our draft Community Board PlanWe're drafting our 2020 - 2022 Community Board and have identified several priority areas that we'd like to focus on over the next three years. We want to know if you agree with our proposed priorities and we'd like to hear any suggestions and feedback you may have. Culture Galore 2020 Culture Galore is a multicultural festival that celebrates our city's diversity with food, arts and crafts, music and dance performances from more than 30 cultures who call Christchurch home. This year will mark the 18th anniversary of this annual event which is proudly funded by the Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood and Waipuna/Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Boards Water restrictions introduced across Christchurch city Level 1 water restrictions have been introduced across Christchurch from today to ensure the Council can keep supplying a fair amount of water while keeping enough in reserve for fire-fighting. Kapuatohe Dwelling and Cottage Our Community Board members recently embarked on a bus tour around the Board area looking at current projects, roading issues and future developments. Our first stop was at the Kapuatohe Dwelling and cottage on Main North Road in Belfast. The Kapuatohe Dwelling was built in 1877, the year before Belfast School opened behind it, and was the old School Masters house. The dwelling is historically significant because of its association with the development of public schooling in New Zealand. The nearby cottage is significant because of its part in the early development of Belfast. The cottage is likely to have been built around 1912. Both buildings sit on the historic Kapuatohe Reserve in Main North Road in Belfast and were damaged in the 2010-11 Canterbury earthquakes. Repairs and strengthening work is currently underway and will be completed over the coming months.
