Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant update
Tuesday 31 March Odour mitigation options report to be considered on ThursdayCouncillors have raised a number of questions on the odour mitigation options report which was scheduled to be discussed at the Council meeting tomorrow (1 April). The meeting will be adjourned so these questions can be fully addressed and reconvened on the afternoon of Thursday 2 April. This meeting will be livestreamed on the Council website. Pond health updateRecent monitoring shows that dissolved oxygen levels in the ponds have dropped slightly. We think this is linked to the recent run of cloudy weather, which has reduced algae activity, rather than indicating a decline in overall pond health. Importantly, community odour monitors are currently detecting minimal odour, which is a positive sign and consistent with stable conditions across the pond system. Looking ahead, forecast sunny weather later in the week should support increased algae activity, helping lift oxygen levels and further support pond health. As always, our team will continue close daily monitoring and make operational adjustments if conditions change.
