Hello |
 |
What's on in Central Otago - July.

Winter is certainly upon us with a very chilly start to July and the promise of more wild weather on the way. Don't let these Baltic temperatures
dissuade you from getting out and experiencing all that is on offer in Central Otago this month. Be like the horse at the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, pop on your scarf and ear warmers (!) and enjoy our snow dusted region. Members of Hullabaloo are celebrating the winter season with a group show - 'Winter Hues' on from mid - July at the Hullabaloo Art Space in Cromwell.
The New Zealand Guitar Quartet are performing a collection of gypsy, jazz, bluegrass, Celtic and flamenco music in both Bannockburn and Alexandra this weekend, so get along and listen to what promises to be a captivating concert. Don’t miss the Alexandra Musical Society’s mid-winter spectacular of musical theatre at its best, 'Grease' - on until July 14th.
The Central Otago Arts Gold Awards 2017 are being held at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery in September this year. The competition is open to all New Zealand citizens or permanent residents over 18 years of age, and has a prize pool of $10,000. The entry deadline for the Art Awards is 10pm on the 9th of August. For further details and to download an entry form visit
www.centralstories.com. The Central Otago District Arts Trust (CODAT) will be holding our Annual General Meeting
on the 17th of August at 6pm, at the Alexandra Community House. The evening is a good opportunity to learn more about what CODAT has achieved in the last year and the projects we have in store for the next 12 months. We are excited to announce that our guest speaker for the evening will be prizewinning Central Otago author Kyle Mewburn. We look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, congratulations to everyone involved in the Alexandra Boomerang Bag project. To help initiate Plastic Free July, dedicated community members have created a collection of funky bags which we are all welcome to pick up, use and return at our leisure. These bags can be found at Bin Inn, the library, Alexandra Community House, Cooney’s Clothing and Footwear and at the Friday Markets. Have a happy July.
