Stand Like Stone Foundation

Inspiring community kindness and courage

Message from our CEO, Anne Kerr

A warm welcome to our latest newsletter with lots to update you on.

Our community grants are open and we’re looking forward to helping more groups deliver charitable projects across the Limestone Coast. Last year we supported 21 projects from improvements at community facilities to helping with meals for people in need.

Grant applications close on the 31st October.

We’re also about to open our scholarship program and will receive applications from the 15th October until 30th November. Our scholarships are awarded for reasons of merit or equity, providing money to support students. Last year we proudly supported 35 students with the costs towards their education.

All the information and online application forms for grants and scholarships can be found on our website.

We’ve also launched a new giving initiative, the Friends of Stand Like Stone, which we’re very excited about.

We want to help more people become a local philanthropist for a community they love, and so we’re inviting people and organisations to sign up as a Friend for $500 per year. We will pool the Friend money to help with our running costs, establish a Friends sub fund and provide an annual grant to the region. Each Friend will be able to vote on their favourite project to support.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you, or someone you know, is looking for a meaningful way to give back to the Limestone Coast and become our Friend!

As always, our newsletter gives us the opportunity to share stories of kindness and courage from our region, and I hope wherever you are reading it, you, and the people you care about are safe and well.

Annual Scholarships and Grants now open

Do you need a grant to help you with your community project? If so, we’re seeking applications from community groups and not-for-profits based in or servicing the Limestone Coast.

The annual Spring Small Grants round has grants up to $10,000 available for local projects. Last year we funded 21 projects addressing a variety of issues including helping with food support and essential personal supplies, through to library books and driver education for regional students and improvements for community facilities in Allendale East, Penola and Naracoorte to name a few.

Our Scholarships are also open and we’re looking for applications to support students studying an approved curriculum and course at an Australian educational institution, whether it be pre-school, primary school, secondary school or tertiary courses.

We’ve proudly worked in partnership with our region supporting people and communities right across the Limestone Coast for over 17 years now. As funding for these projects and scholarships comes directly from the community, it’s everyone who has ever donated to Stand Like Stone that makes these grants and scholarships possible.

The Spring Small Grants close on 31st October 2021, and Scholarships close on the 30th November 2021.

All the information and online application forms are available on our website www.standlikestone.com.au

Our new giving initiative - become our Friend!

We’ve launched a new giving initiative, the Friends of Stand Like Stone, which we’re very excited about.

We want to help more people become a local philanthropist for a community they love, and so we’re inviting people and organisations to sign up as a Friend for $500 per year (or $42.50 per month).

Donations are tax deductible and 100% of your donation stays in the Limestone Coast, helping a community you love today as well as leaving money for tomorrow.

We will pool the Friend money to help with our running costs, establish a Friends sub fund and provide an annual grant to the region. We’re hoping to raise enough money to make $30,000 available to the community, however the final amount will depend on the number of Friends we have.

The first annual Friends Grant will open in May next year and will be open to not for profit groups located in, or providing services to the Limestone Coast.

Each Friend will be able to vote on their favourite project to support which the Board will take into account when making its decision.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you, or someone you know, is looking for a meaningful way to give back to the Limestone Coast and become our Friend!

We’d like to thank the Keith Apex Club, the Bordertown Veterinary Clinic and Stephanie Brooker-Jones for signing up as our first Friends!

Grants in Action - Board visit to Naracoorte

2020/21 was the year of Zoom meetings! And while technology has enabled us to connect with our community in ways we previously hadn’t, it is lovely to meet in person more often now as restrictions ease.

With this in mind, our Board were delighted to hold their September meeting in Naracoorte and took the opportunity to visit the Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery who had received a Stand Like Stone grant.

Regional art galleries play an important role in bringing art to rural communities for everyone to enjoy, and we were delighted to provide a grant to the Gallery to install solar panels - a green solution so more of their funds are available for community art projects!

The Board meeting was held at the Naracoorte CWA Hall who also received a grant to replace the flooring in the Hall. It was a great way for the Board to see and hear about the positive impact of our annual grants.

Thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters

Sponsor partners play a critical role in helping with our operational costs so that we can ensure more money from donations goes directly back into our local community.

We are privileged to be supported by a wide range of people and organisations through their financial and in-kind support.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to our financial sponsors for this year.
