Welcome to the February edition of the College of Business, Government and Law newsletter.  

Our top story for this edition is an update on some of our enrolment success stories at this point of the year, including significant uplifts in our Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor, Bachelor of Accounting, and Graduate Certificate in Social Impact courses.

This edition also includes profiles of some of our high-impact staff, a report on the most-viewed Instagram post in the ‘Guess my degree’ social media promotion, 5 new A/A* publications, and $1.6M new research funding awarded already.

Education: BGL's remarkable 2024 enrolments

We interviewed the Law and Business team where they provided insights into the student enrolment growth achieved, and how this is helping to realise the opportunity of the Flinders' new city campus.

The success stories of these programs underscore Flinders University’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and student-cantered education and are driving student enrolment growth.

The student enrolment numbers of the courses profiled below, as outlined in the Student Pipeline Report from Power BI on 12 February 2024, show:

  • The Bachelor of Laws has 129 offers (up 174%), 103 accepts (up 255%) and 74 enrolments (up 289%).
  • The Juris Doctor has 58 offers (up 76%), 36 accepts (up 63%) and 27 enrolments (up 107%).
  • The Bachelor of Accounting has 46 offers (up 64%), 31 accepts (up 41%) and 25 enrolments (up 92%).
  • The Graduate Certificate in Social Impact has 25 offers, 23 accepts and 14 enrolments.

Congratulations to everyone in the College for their work in making this happen. 

Let’s continue to drive student enrolment growth and realising the opportunity of the Flinders’ new city campus.

Social Media Highlights

We did two posts on TikTok and Instagram, and these generated 28,448 views in December. 

‘Guess my degree’ promoting sports management reached 17K views on Instagram (image on left). So far, this post achieved the most amount of views Flinders has received so far for the series. The Criminology post, was designed to promote the options of combined degrees you can do with Criminology. 

In January, we also posted the first of many testimonials of our inaugural graduates from the Graduate Certificate of Social Impact.

Farewell Sarah Taylor 💔

In bidding farewell to Sarah Taylor, our esteemed Director of College Services, we reflect on her outstanding contributions to BGL and Flinders over the past five years. We celebrate Sarah's exceptional leadership, financial acumen, and dedication.

Throughout her tenure, Sarah adeptly navigated our growth trajectory, ensuring the College's financial health while fostering a positive and collaborative culture. Her impact extends beyond the balance sheet, as she played a crucial role in supporting research concentration and preparing for the move to the new City Campus.

Join me in congratulating Sarah on this well-deserved opportunity. Although her departure is a loss for our community, we extend our best wishes for her continued success.

Staff LinkedIn Training

The recent LinkedIn Training workshop offered an invaluable opportunity for staff to enhance their LinkedIn profiles and craft impactful content.

The session included a pre-survey to tailor content to participants' needs, covering LinkedIn basics, optimizing profiles, and building personal and professional brands. Facilitated by Chanelle, the three-hour workshop featured live tasks on participants' LinkedIn accounts, promoting interactive learning. The training aimed to empower staff in leveraging LinkedIn for professional growth, aligning with Flinders University's commitment to personal and career development.
