Burning issue

A TV ad for lamb raised concerns around health and safety after it showed a man using a barbeque indoors.

The Community Panel acknowledged that using an unventilated barbeque inside poses serious risk, however found that the portrayal was clearly exaggerated and fantastical, and unlikely to encourage viewers to imitate unsafe behaviour.

Tracking trouble

A Facebook ad for an Anti Apex GPS tracker raised concerns that it promoted dangerous behaviour.

The Community Panel found the phrases like “she will never know it’s there”, and “you can track her anywhere in the world”, encouraged and normalised stalking and coercive control through tracking.

A Toyota TV ad featuring dogs riding in the back of a ute raised concerns that it promoted unsafe animal transport, putting dogs at risk.

The Community Panel acknowledged the ad’s light-hearted and exaggerated tone. However, they found that the scenes showing dogs chasing, jumping, and sitting untethered in the moving vehicle appeared realistic enough to suggest that the ad implied it would be acceptable in actual circumstances.
