What's On September 2014

Well, it's September again and I can't believe I'm typing that month already! I went out this afternoon to take a photo for this newsletter header -
following my nose, I found myself at the willow-tree-lined Fraser river, where it merges with the cool waters of the Clutha. This spot has a special place in my heart but I don’t often go there at this time of year. Normally, I’d be there for a summer swim or maybe for a golden autumn walk, but it has been a fair while since I was there at the tail-end of winter, with the trees all bare - but it was lovely, as always. I find rivers great places to gather one’s thoughts and to view the bigger picture that is life. The flow is continuous, just like waves and clouds and it is quite a wonderful feeling to let yourself float along with them for a bit.
So what is in store for spring time? Well the Blossom Festival of course! It always brings a raft of weird and wonderful celebrations to get people out and about. The Alexandra Musical Society's production, All Shook Up, will be on. The Mardi Gras, fantastic markets, the Grand Procession with its colourful floats, pipe bands, clowns and then the fun in Pioneer Park, art exhibitions and much, much more.
Below, you will see everything that is happening around Central Otago during September, so be sure to take yourself along to something. We are managing two of these listings in the middle of the month. First, there are three professional development workshops for artists, so check these out if you want to upskill your artistic pursuits. Second, we are holding two lectures, one in Cromwell and one in Alexandra. Dr Jane Malthus is a dress historian from Dunedin who will be sharing her knowledge of the Eden Hore Fashion Collection and will also inform us about the significance of
our Council’s recent purchase. For more details check below. Cheers for now
