PeopleWelcome to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
Steve Cherney, MDTitle: Trauma Chief
Start Date: July 1, 2024
For the last 7 years I was at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and was Associate Professor, Vice Chair of Education, and Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service Line. I just completed a traveling fellowship for the OTA and am involved in national leadership for that organization in addition to regional leadership for Arkansas state orthopaedic societies and trauma system. Research interests include improving trauma system care, and dealing with complex pelvis and upper femur fractures. Additionally, I am passionate about improving resident education and have won awards for both medical student and resident teaching. My free time is spent playing hockey, learning to rock climb and fly fish, water skiing and snow skiing when possible. In addition to hiking and traveling to as many national parks me and my wife could get to. Danielle and I have been married for
almost 8 years and have a 6 year old Lagotto Romagnolo (essentially an Italian Water dog) named Tuf.
Matt Hendricks, AT-CTitle: Sports Medicine
Start Date: April 29, 2024
The first two years of my career I provided Athletic Training Services for Marshfield Clinic- Rice Lake, WI High School after graduating college from UWM in 2013. I then moved back to Milwaukee and worked at Froedtert Sports Medicine- Wisconsin Lutheran College contract for the past nine years. I have many years of experience working directly with student athletes and am now looking forward to a clinic based role. My wife, Lindsay, and I live in New Berlin, WI with our goldendoodle, Jaxson. We recently got married in July 2023. We love spending time with our families who live around the area. I love being outdoors and also love sports. I enjoy fishing, hunting and camping as well as going to live sporting events and watching them on TV. One of my favorite family trips that we try to go on each year is a Canadian
fly in fishing trip. The ability to escape for a week without electronics, playing card games, having bonfires and enjoying the peace and quiet is unlike anything I've experienced before.

June is PRIDE month!
The MCW Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is PROUD to celebrate PRIDE month with our LGBTQ+ colleagues, students and patients.
MCW Student Resource
The MCW Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People in Medicine (LGBTPM) is a medical and pharmacy student run student organization whose mission is to cultivate an environment of safety and pride for past, current, and future students, faculty and staff of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Out and Ally Lists
In order to promote visibility of LGBTQ students, faculty, staff, and allies, the MCW LGBTPM organization maintains an Out List and Ally List. Submit your Information for Inclusion on the Out or Ally List here.
Pronouns
Pronouns are words that we use to refer to someone in third person, such as she, he, or they. While we often assume pronouns based on how people present themselves, this assumption can be an uncomfortable or harmful experience. We encourage everyone to introduce themselves with pronouns, ask for others’ pronouns regardless of gender presentation, and respect those pronouns, as this helps to create an inclusive environment.
For more information about the LGBTPM organization, Out/Ally Lists and resources regarding use of pronouns please click here.
