Hello!
This month’s newsletter is just like the month of July in the Northern Hemisphere — a little hot and scattered (Ed. note: we apologize and blame the heat for any other bad wordplay instances in this edition).
We have news about a new friends & family discount for Postmark, as well as an upcoming webinar on domain reputation. We’ll also tell you about some great improvements we’ve made to the app over the past month. Enjoy!

📰 The State of Transactional Email
The Nielsen Norman Group just published this summary as an intro to their report on Transactional Email and Confirmation Messages (this is a paid report). The findings are really interesting and include this important note:
Unfortunately, just as they did ten years ago, some e-commerce companies still fail to make their transactional email messages a priority. They still send out email with subject lines that don’t deliver any information; or fail to organize their message content to match users’ priorities. As a result, they miss out on a big opportunity to strengthen their relationships with their customers.
Once you’ve gone through the summary, you should read our guide on transactional email best practices, and Garrett's article for A List Apart on providing better context in your emails.

New webinar: what you need to know about domain reputation
Unlike sending IPs that can be switched from time to time, your domain reputation sticks with you as a sender. This is why mailbox providers are investing in filtering protocols that put more weight on domain reputation to determine whether emails should make it through to the inbox.
If you’re not familiar with how your sending practices and domain reputation impact deliverability, join us for a free webinar on Thursday, July 26th to learn about:
-
How domain reputation affects deliverability
-
What factors influence domain reputation
-
What can be done to maintain or improve your domain reputation
If you’d like to boost your domain reputation to get better deliverability, this webinar is designed for you.

🚀 What we’ve been up to
We know from feedback and customer interviews that many of you need to keep track of each email not just as it flows through Postmark, but outside of it as well. We also know that you can’t always rely only on the Postmark-generated Message ID to accomplish this — you need a way to set your own unique IDs on a per-message basis.
That’s where our new custom metadata feature comes in. Read the announcement blog post and check out the FAQ to see how to implement this for your emails.
Are you using Rebound to prompt your customers to update their email address if an email you sent them hard bounced? No? Well now is a good time to start. We’ve added a few new features to Rebound’s Javascript API to make it easier to use the tool for email-crucial workflows and single-page apps.
We recently added a dedicated change log to our marketing site to help you stay in the loop on big updates and bug fixes

🎷 Last word: from the #music channel
It’s come to the attention of our music connoisseurs that a lot of people have been using Marvin Gaye songs for “inspiration”. First, there was news that Ed Sheeran got sued for $100 million for ripping off Marvin Gaye in 'Thinking Out Loud'. And then Anna reminded us that a court sided with the Marvin Gaye family in a fight against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.
In happier news, we’ve been really enjoying the new Kamasi Washington album, Heaven and Earth. Related, here’s a great article on the saxophone’s unlikely journey out of meme hell.
Until next month — happy sending!
