Report on immediate closure of organics processing plantMany of you present at April’s Finance and Performance Committee may recall councillors requesting a report on the costs, risks and implications of immediately closing the organics processing plant. At that meeting the Committee agreed in principle to move the plant, and directed Council staff to go to the market to find another location and a possible delivery partner. Staff indicated it may take up to five years to have a plant at another site operational, although they would be doing what they could to have a much shorter timeline. The report on the implications of an immediate closure will be available on our website at 9.30am and will be considered by councillors at this Thursday’s (26 May) Finance and Performance Committee meeting. You will be able to find the report here at 9.30am today (Tuesday 24 May); it will be titled Finance and Performance Committee Supplementary. Hard copies of the report will also be available at the Bromley Community Centre, at 45 Bromley Road, from 9.30am today (Tuesday 24 May). The report acknowledges the concerns many in the Bromley community have about the plant and the long history of odour but, due to the costs and various risks associated with closure in the absence of alternative processing capacity, recommends the plant continues to operate in the interim. It sets out the implications, costs, impacts and risks related to the immediately closure of the plant and associated diversion of organics to landfill.
