Wouldn’t you love to have everything related to your diabetes in one place? The Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre at Telethon Kids Institute, in conjunction with Perth Children’s Hospital Diabetes and Endocrinology Department, have recently been awarded funding to develop a Diabetes Patient Portal. Now we need your help! If you are a parent, carer, sibling or young person living with type 1 diabetes, including anyone who has transitioned to adult services in the last 3 years, please join us to co-design the platform so that we can make sure it meets everyone’s needs. Where: Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre, 11 Limosa Close, Stirling When: Wednesday 8 March Time: 5.30pm – 8.30pm There will be light food and refreshments provided on the night. You will also receive an honorarium payment of $50 for attending. Phone triage systemWe have updated the phone triage system for the PCH Diabetes Clinic and have provided some important information on a Triage Help Sheet to support our families. Please remember this service should be used for those who are extremely unwell. Teaching kitchens programDo you have a 13-17 year old who enjoys cooking or interested in learning? Our Teaching Kitchens program returns on March 9, for four weeks (every Thursday 5-7pm). The fun sessions combine nutrition education and practical cooking skills. Understanding your experiencesOur researchers want to hear about your experiences parenting a child with T1D. If you are a caregiver of a child living with diabetes aged 10 years or younger, we would love to hear from you. Diabetes nutrition researchWant to know your child's dietary intake in more detail? Our researchers will look at their nutrient and food group intake to improve our dietetic care. All it takes is completing an online survey. Exercise studyDo you know someone aged between 14 and 17 years who has type 1 diabetes and struggles with exercise? Our researchers want to hear their experiences. Hypo awareness studyDo you know when your blood glucose levels are going low? If not, our researchers need you! We want to see if introducing a home-based exercise program can improve hypo awareness, Congratulations Dr Aveni HaynesCongratulations to Dr Aveni Haynes on being awarded the People's Choice Award at Telethon Kids Institute's recent Illuminate PitchFest event. She was awarded $25,000 in funding to go towards her groundbreaking CGM study, detecting early changes in glucose patterns in young children who are at risk of type 1 diabetes. |
