Can you tell us a little bit about your experience and the work you do?
I own Sifter, a simple bug and issue tracker, and numerous other profitable SaaS businesses (Ballpark, Curated and Pulse, to name a few), in addition to Simple Focus, a user experience agency, and Clear Function, a custom software development agency. Because I run product companies that serve the needs of agencies, as well as two agencies of my own, I’m versed in what agencies need to thrive, whether that’s around process or tools, cash flow or culture.
What is your favorite feature of Postmark?
My favorite feature right now is Postmark’s ability to receive and parse inbound emails using custom domains. That makes it easy for us to set up team@[customdomain dot com] and have it go into our applications. It opens a lot of opportunities for white labeling our products for our customers and allowing their customers to send email to the applications. Not just Sifter, but my other apps as well.
What's one bit of advice you'd give to other developers about implementing and managing their transactional email?
Don't choose the cheapest option for your transactional emails. You need your transactional emails to be reliable, and so when that cost goes up it's a good sign that you're doing well. Besides, you'll find yourself switching providers and spending more money and time later when deliverability is a problem. It's not really cheaper in the end to choose an inferior service.
