What's On in Central Otago - December & January.

The Teviot Valley Community Development Group (TVCDG) alongside the Central Otago District Arts Trust (CODAT) are thrilled
to announce that a huge community art project will be happening in the valley in the new year. TVCDG and CODAT (with the kind support of Central Lakes Trust, Otago Community Trust and Creative Communities), are bringing Internationally renowned Auckland artist FLOX to the Teviot in January 2020. Flox has completed numerous projects overseas, including places such as India, Hong Kong, Japan and New York, as well as a collection of
impressive commissions throughout NZ. Flox, with her cans and stencils, has created some stunning, uplifting and meaningful murals and it is such a privilege to have someone of her calibre working in the valley. She will be joined by her (also famous) colleague TrustMe to complete a mural on Scotland Street in Roxburgh. The work of art will speak of the valley's heritage, values and combined cultures - all of which make it the beautiful place it is today. Flox will arrive on the 10th and will stay for two weeks. During this time, she will offer several FREE ART WORKSHOPS in Millers Flat and Roxburgh. All ages and abilities are welcome. Permanent residents and seasonal workers are encouraged to come along, join in and give it a go. You don’t need to have any experience and there is no pressure to come with any grand ideas of your own. Just bring a smile and a keen attitude, and you’re guaranteed to walk away with fresh skills and greater knowledge of art processes. This is a massive opportunity to
learn skills from one of the best street artists in New Zealand at the same time as contribute ideas that could help inform the final design of Teviot’s own piece of street art. Also happening in January is ART AT THE PACKING SHED. On the 4th and 5th of January, from 10 am - 4 pm each day, the beautiful gardens of The Packing Shed, will be
filled with art and craft stalls, an exhibition and live entertainment. The restaurant will be open for market go-ers to purchase delicious food and coffee. Artists from throughout the region and further afield will offer ceramics, sculpture, paintings, prints and much more for sale. Throughout the weekend several plein air painting demonstrations will happen for interested on-lookers. Inside the building, an exhibition of around 100 original artworks will be available for sale and works purchased can be taken away on the day. Art at the Packing Shed is free to attend and is a great day out for everyone. Currently exhibiting at Central
Stories Museum and Art Gallery is 'INDIGO'. For the duration of the exhibition, the Indigo group is providing the public with a varied programme of PUBLIC EVENTS which are running every Sunday the exhibition is on. These events range from floor talks to artists at work and children’s art classes. If you plan to be in beautiful Central over the summer break don't forget to check out the CENTRAL OTAGO ARTS TRAIL - meet artists in their studios, browse our galleries and enjoy some of the best art on offer in Central Otago. You can pick up an Arts Trail booklet from all Central Otago i-Sites or download a printable copy by clicking HERE. For all those planning on entering the Craigs Investment Partners Art Prize don't forget entries close this Friday the 13th of December at 5 pm. We wish you all a very merry summer
break.
