Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairMarch marks the start of the year's most colourful season and we've just celebrated the Edible Garden Awards, showcasing some beautiful gardens from across our community. A big thank you to everyone who gave their feedback on our draft 2020-2022 Community Board Plan. The Board will be reviewing this feedback over the coming weeks and we're looking forward to hearing your views on what's important for our Linwood-Central-Heathcote community. Fresh Linwood face leads local government advocacyWaikura Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board member Alexandra Davids has become the youngest person to head the national body advocating for community boards. She's been chosen to be the Community Board Executive Committee Chairperson for Local Government New Zealand. Thanks to everyone who came along to our Eastgate drop-in session to speak to Board members Alexandra Davids and Yani Johanson about our Community Board Plan. We're aiming to finalise and adopt our 2020 - 2022 Community Board Plan at the end of April. It was great to see so many of you come along to the opening of Te Ara a Rongo Park on 10 March! We had a blessing by Kaharoa Manihera which included the fruit trees and the bug hotels, then a performance by a local Kura Kaupapa, Te Pā o Rākaihautū. Progress on Linwood's new poolWith a contractor appointed to deliver Linwood’s much anticipated $22 million pool, design has moved into the next stage and the community can expect to see action onsite in July. Local company Apollo Projects will again oversee the construction of Christchurch’s latest pool complex, Te Pou Toetoe: Linwood Pool, following the successful delivery of the Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre in 2018. Lyttelton wastewater pipeline flows into placeA 535-metre wastewater pipeline has been installed under the Heathcote River, marking a major milestone in work on the Lyttelton Harbour wastewater project. It will attach the Alport Place pump station to the Heathcote Valley pipeline – signalling a major step in the project to connect Lyttelton Harbour’s wastewater system to the main Christchurch system. 2020 Edible and Sustainable Garden AwardsFeast your eyes on some of these award-winning gardens from the Linwood-Central-Heathcote wards. Last week, 20 participation awards were given out across the four categories. National Remembrance Service at Horncastle ArenaLet's come together as one to remember and honour those who were lost on 15 March 2019. This Sunday's national remembrance service, Ko Tātou, Tātou We Are One, will be held at Horncastle Arena at 3pm. It will honour those who died in last year's mosque attacks and build on the spirit of unity that came out of the tragedy. A stylish new fashion exhibition at Canterbury Museum captures how we dress today and the Pacific influence that helped create and shape a distinctive Aotearoa identity.
