February 2025

Hello School of Communication Family,

Welcome to the start of the Spring 2025 semester! Before we get into all of the fun and exciting things we have planned this semester, I do want to take a brief moment to introduce myself. If we have not yet met, I am the Associate Dean of the School of Communication. This is my ninth year at Chapman and the first year serving in this role. Prior to this, I served as the Director of Graduate Studies for our M.S. and Ph.D. programs. While this is my ninth year here, this is my 26th year as a professor and 29th year teaching college students. My research interests are in applying persuasion theory to real-world contexts. For instance, my past research projects/publications include applying theory to design anti-smoking, drinking and driving, or pro-organ donation campaigns. My current campaign interests revolve around politics (ugh), sustainable behaviors (i.e., water consumption), and advocating for foster/adoptive children. I am the author of more than 60 articles and book chapters and have led initiatives on six funded projects totaling just north of 4 million dollars. I am also originally from Brooklyn (NY), married to Dr. Andrea Weber, and have three kids and two cats. I don't currently have a dog… but if you do, you should bring them to Doti. As you might have heard, the SoC loves dogs!!!

Anyway, enough about me. We have many great events and activities lined up this semester, and we'd love to see you there. Watch for the SoC Internship panel during Parents Spring Summit (March 1st). Look into our student groups, such as Trailblazers, Lambda Pi Eta, Chapman Radio, and our amazing Student Advisory Board (see more info in our Student Orgs section below)! This is the 3rd higher education institution where I have worked in my career, and I can tell you that our students have more input into our unit than any other place I have been. Getting involved in student groups here is more than just something you put on your resume. That is the Chapman way and certainly the way of the SoC!

One of my goals this year is to work on setting up partnerships with local organizations for internship/career partnerships and mentor opportunities. Stay tuned for more information on that in the coming weeks!

Lastly, I invite you all to drop by my office in Doti Hall, Suite 202. My door is (almost) always open, and I want to meet as many of you as possible. If you can't find time to drop by, be on the lookout for free doughnuts and an opportunity to chat with me in the next few weeks. Or, stop by my booth at the SoC Experience Day in April!

Have a great semester! I hope to see you soon.

Keith Weber, Ed.D.
