March 2023 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

It has been an exciting semester already and we are only halfway through! We have so many upcoming events this Spring on University Hill, and I hope you will be a part! I cannot wait to be with you all as we seek to support DBU through our prayers, service, and giving to further the mission of Dallas Baptist University.

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. II Thessalonians 1:11-12

God has used each of you to remind me that when we are seeking His glory, there is nothing that the Lord can't do when we commit ourselves to Him. The way each of you serve through prayer, the giving of your time, and generous gifts have been a testament to that truth in the lives of our DBU students. What a privilege to watch each of you serve the Lord and others! As I pray for the members of the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board, my prayer is that our deeds are prompted by our love for the Lord and our joy in serving others!

We have exciting events coming up this Spring at Dallas Baptist University! Keep scrolling and mark your calendars!

This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board. Here are some practical ways to become involved this spring:

DBU All-University Prayer Requests

Academics: As the month of April approaches, academic demands increase for students as more tests, papers, and projects are due. Pray that students will manage their time maturely and will have the drive to do their best. Pray that struggling students will take steps to access the academic support DBU provides.

Athletics - Pray for DBU Athletics teams this month. Pray for safety and opportunities to be a strong witness for Christ. The following teams will be traveling and competing this month throughout the state and nation: Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, and Women’s Stunt.

Campbell Fearing Update- Campbell Fearing is a junior at DBU who was diagnosed with leukemia last November. Campbell was notified last week that he has been matched with a bone marrow donor! He will receive the transplant this month. Pray for Campbell and his family to experience God’s deep love and peace as they await the transplant date.

DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Member Prayer Requests

For the 2022-2023 year, the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Staff, Chaplain Patty Lovvorn, and our Executive Committee are committing to pray for the needs of our members and their loved ones. Please let us know how we can pray for you by following this link: Prayer Request Form

FLOW (Free Lunch on Wednesdays) - Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 12:00-1:00 PM, the Women's Auxiliary Board has the privilege of serving lunch to DBU students in partnership with the Baptist Student Ministry. Please email leslie@dbu.edu, if you would like to give funds to cover the food for their lunch (approximately $1,500) or join us as we spend time with and serve our DBU students!

Scholarships are always a great way to support DBU. Students are transformed personally from receiving a Christ-centered higher education at DBU but need a little help financially. To contribute, go to www.dbu.edu/give. Choose "Student Scholarships." You may also send a check in the mail to Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.

Spring 2023 Scholarship Recipients - Due to your generosity, the Women's Auxiliary Board was able to give four, $3,000 scholarships to students in need for the Spring 2023 semester. Receiving these scholarships allows the recipients to continue to pursue their education without worrying about finances.

Over the next few months, we will be highlighting each of the 4 recipients of the Women's Auxiliary Board Scholarships! Read below about Addison Daniells, a DBU freshman from Salem, Oregon!

Addison Daniells - My name is Addison Daniells. I am from Salem, Oregon, and I am currently studying psychology. I am not exactly sure what I am looking to do post-graduation, but I know I want to do international missions in whatever capacity the Lord allows. After hearing from a military missionary at my church, a light in my heart was truly sparked for all those need to hear the gospel but have yet to be reached. Last summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Peru, where I felt called to missions. It was a wonderful experience, but it was also a very uncomfortable and challenging two weeks. However, I wouldn't trade it for the world, and I can't wait for more opportunities to bring the gospel to those around the world.

Dr. Gary and Sheila Cook Celebrate 35 Years at DBU!

Congratulations on thirty-five years of faithful service to Dallas Baptist University. The Women's Auxiliary Board wants to thank you for devoting your lives to the Lord and allowing Him to use you to build DBU into a University committed to putting Christ above all. Thank you for the time you have invested, the unwavering dedication you have given, and the wonderful example you have exemplified as servant leaders at Dallas Baptist University. We love you!

Bluebonnet Luncheon

33rd Annual Norvell Slater Hymn Sing
Friday, April 21
Concert and Hymn Sing - 1:30 pm

Join us for the 33rd Annual Hymn Sing at Dallas Baptist University! We will sing some of your favorite hymns in our beautiful Pilgrim Chapel on University Hill. Bring your friends, family, or an entire church group; we’d love to host you or a group on Friday, April 21st!

Membership Tea
