What will Donald Trump do next? A question that always feels pertinent. At the time of writing, he appears undecided about whether to join Israeli strikes against Iran. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is already exploring the UK’s move in possible scenarios, including if Trump decides to drag the UK into the conflict as well.
As Geraint Hughes from King’s College London’s Defence Studies Department explains, this could take a number of different forms. Any response would most likely not involve deploying British forces, but authorising use of the UK-controlled Diego Garcia airbase. But even this raises international legal questions, not to mention a political dilemma for the prime minister.
