The office of Research and Graduate Education is excited to introduce our Research Development Development Fellow, Dr. Zhen Cong! Dr. Cong is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Sciences here at Chapman. Her research examines vulnerability, resilience, and disparities related to disasters, with a focus on older adults and intersectional vulnerabilities. As research development faculty fellow Zhen will be implementing opportunities to engage faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate student from across disciplines in interdisciplinary collaborations.

 
Announcements

New: Faculty Disclosure of Outside Interests Mandatory for ALL Faculty

The annual faculty disclosure campaign kicked off on February 28 and will run through April 4.  This year, all faculty are obligated to file a disclosure (not just those who are investigators). Faculty should submit their Annual 2024 disclosure through the Cayuse Outside Interests module here. Instructions are posted on the OOR&GE website under “Make a Disclosure System Instruction.”  As of March 6,  115 faculty have already submitted their disclosures!  If you need assistance in navigating the system or responding to the questions in the disclosure form, do not hesitate to reach out to Jen Donais in OOR&GE for assistance at donais@chapman.edu or via MS Teams.

 

Research Security Training Mandatory for All NSF and Department of Energy Applications

The Office of Research Integrity & Compliance is tracking US government requirements related to research security and, in particular, mandatory research security training for all NSF and Department of Energy applicants beginning May 1, 2025.  NSF has created a series of research security training modules posted on its website which covers the mandated areas. All senior and key personnel on NSF and DOE proposals must take the required research security training within 12 months prior to the submission of the proposal.  Faculty should maintain the training certificates in order to demonstrate compliance with the requirement in the event of a sponsor audit or review.   Please contact Jen Donais in the Office of Research Integrity & Compliance with questions or for clarification.

Chapman University Implemented as Dropdown on Research.gov 

Now it is easier to log into NSF! Chapman University has been added to Organization Credentials section of the Research.gov sign in page. This will allow you to sign in directly without Multi Factor Authentication (MFA).

 

New NIH Biosketch & Other Support Requirements on/after May 25, 2025

For submissions on/after May 25, 2025, NIH will require the use of the Biographical Sketch Common Form, new NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement form, and the Common Form for Current and Pending (Other) Support. To be ready for this change we recommend doing the following now:  

  • Familiarize yourself with SciENcv as you will be required to use it to complete the Common Forms.
  • Get an ORCID ID and link it to your eRA Commons Personal Profile as you will be required to enter your ORCID ID on the Common Forms.
 

Fulbright Scholar-In-Residence Program is Open

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program is accepting applications for U.S. institutions to host a scholar from outside of the United States for a semester or full academic year to teach courses, assist in curriculum development, guest lecture, develop study abroad/exchange partnerships and engage with the campus and the local community. Fulbright provides J-visa sponsorship, travel, and living stipends.

Welcome to the 2026-27 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program competition!

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program competition for the 2026-2027 academic year is now open.The deadline to apply to U.S. Scholar awards is September 15, 2025 (5:00 pm Eastern (UTC -5:00). The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is offering more than 380 awards in more than 130 countries this year. Join one of Fulbright’s webinars and interactive office hours or get more information.

On Wednesday 3/12/25, you will receive an invitation to participate in the 2025 Adult Student Priorities Survey (ASPS). Please look for an invitation from The Provost's Office. These surveys provide you with an opportunity to express your level of satisfaction with various campus services. You are encouraged to participate and complete the survey.

 

Submit Like a Pro – Thesis and Dissertation Library Workshop

Leatherby Libraries is hosting in person and virtual workshops on “Submitting Your Thesis or Dissertation to the Library”.  Learn about the procedures, required documents, and formatting standards to ensure a smooth and successful submission process of your thesis and dissertation to the library. Learn about the procedures, required documents, and formatting standards you need to know about to ensure a smooth and successful submission process.

The In-Person Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18th, 2:00-3:15 p.m.in the Leatherby Libraries Instruction Room 305. Save the Date: 2025 Three Minute Thesis Competition

Please save the date, Friday, April 11 for the 2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition and Research Poster Session. Graduate students are encouraged to participate in the competition which is a wonderful opportunity for student to practice their presentation skills while sharing their work with their peers and faculty. More information about the competition will be announced in upcoming issues of our Research News Roundup.

Chapman Gains Access to Key Women's Studies Titles

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Leatherby Libraries is pleased to announce that the Chapman research community now has access to the Taylor & Francis Women’s Studies Ebooks Collection. This database features a curated collection of key titles in Women’s Studies, examining the impact of race, ethnicity, geography, class, sexual orientation, and gender construction on the lives and experiences of women.

Fund Your Research with 3 New Open Access Publishing Opportunities

The Leatherby Libraries is pleased to announce that Chapman University has joined three new read-and-publish deals through the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Emerald, and Oxford University Press. These agreements will allow Chapman-affiliated authors to publish their articles Open Access at reduced or zero cost.
