Important upcoming changes to your Google account

Brown's Office of Information Technology has announced a change to the login process for Google accounts. This change has been postponed until February 16.

Please read the message below carefully and take steps now to ensure you will be able to access your Google account, including your Brown email, once the change is made on February 16.

Starting February 16, you will need to know your Brown username and password in order to log into your Google account. If you don't know your Brown username and password, follow these instructions for activating your Brown account.

You will then need to set up Duo two-step authentication.

If you have questions or problems accessing your Brown username, please contact the IT Service Center via chat at their website or phone (401-863-HELP [4357]). They understand how important access is and are generally open extended hours to assist you. For a list of their current hours, please visit the IT Service Center Home Page.

Upcoming Changes to Google Logins

On Wednesday, February 16, OIT will change the login process for Brown Google accounts. As you log in, once you provide your email address, you’ll complete the login with your Brown username and password instead of your Brown Google password. You will then provide a Duo two-step authentication, similar to many other Brown services.

If you are a person who uses Brown services frequently, this should be a seamless transition, but if you are a member of the community who primarily uses just Google services, now is a good time to ensure that you know your Shibboleth password and get set up with 2-step for the account.

OIT will reach out to the owners of “shared mailboxes” with further instructions. Changes to those accounts will happen in March.
