Welcome to the April edition of the College of Business, Government and Law newsletter. As might be expected, a large part of our conversation focussed upon Artificial Intelligence, or as the SDS Director Phil Bourne (a Flinders alumnus) prefers to call it, Augmented Intelligence. Education 📚 Unique Student Identifiers As you likely know, it was determined that from 1 January 2023, all higher education students, including those who commenced prior to 2021, must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to:
The consequence if students do not provide their USI by the census date for the topics they're enrolled in, is that they will be withdrawn from those topics. The university is reaching out to these students (by phone call, email and SMS), however, contacting some is proving very difficult. Students will receive a FLO/Canvas sanction after several unsuccessful attempts. Therefore, academic staff may be asked to make contact with their student/s in their lecture/workshop/tutorial if our attempts to contact have been unsuccessful. Information on the USI can be found at: Australian Government USI, Flinders University student webpage, usi@flinders.edu.au or 8201 5511. Preferred names We'd like to share a friendly reminder on the importance of using students' preferred names - which is not always the same as their legal name. If a student is known by a preferred name or nickname, they can request this to be recorded in the system for the purpose of forums and their Flinders email. They can request this change of preferred name by submitting a request via Ask Flinders.
