Welcome to the May newsletter

Dear

Thank you to all of our members who attended Trinity Sunday recently, despite the rain there was a brilliant atmosphere on campus. May has been another very busy month with the University hosting the annual Race, Equity and Social Justice conference and several alumni members attending our annual day at York Races.

We are now eagerly awaiting the summer graduation ceremonies which will be taking place, for the first time, at the Leeds Playhouse in July.

Marathon man

Recently when sharing our Throwback Thursday posts we were reminded of one of our sporting legends, Ian Thompson.

Ian was a PGCE student with us at the time he won the Commonwealth Games marathon in January 1974. Read more about Ian.

June competitions

We have two competitions in June fast approaching. On Thursday 6 June we will be celebrating Higher Education Day where you can enter by sharing a picture with a caption about the best thing studying at Leeds Trinity has done for you.

And on Friday 21 June it is National Selfie Day where you can enter by sharing a selfie with something related to Leeds Trinity in the picture.

Keep an eye on our social media channels X and Facebook on the relevant days for further information and how to enter!

Celebrating our alumni

The Alumni Office has been working closely with the Leeds Trinity marketing team to showcase some of our exceptional graduates around West Yorkshire as part of a new brand awareness campaign. One of these displays is just down the road from campus – if you are at Leeds Bradford Airport you will see Zee Faridi's (Secondary PE and Sports Development, 2016) story on display.

LegalTech in Leeds

Our Law School and Employer Partnerships team have renewed the partnership with the LegalTech in Leeds initiative.

With the Leeds Trinity University Law School due to start delivering programmes from our new City Campus when it opens in the 2024/25 academic year, partnering with LegalTech in Leeds will bring with it stronger connections with the businesses and firms operating in this exciting growth area. Find out more.

Our Employer Partnerships team is keen to speak to any former students working in the legal or tech sectors. If this is you then please get in touch.

Featured alumni – Adam Ogle

Adam Ogle is Director and Business Owner at Welcome to Travel (Australia). He graduated from Sports Journalism in 2009.

Like many graduates, Adam left Leeds Trinity with new found confidence. He was able to utilise the placement opportunities. He says: "I did placements with ITV Calendar, BBC Radio Leeds and Football365. I learned a lot about self-discipline, autonomy, accountability and problem solving."

But it wasn't just the placements, his all-round educational experience led him to a career abroad. He remembers: "Similarly to the skills learned on placements, I learned a lot about being independent. Putting yourself out there and getting out of your comfort zone was a common part of University, and that experience meant I was happy to do so afterwards. It allowed me to go travelling all over the world and not be as afraid about situations as I had experience of being self-sufficient."

Adam has been in Australia since 2010 after a backpacking trip. He set up his business with a fellow Leeds Trinity graduate. Read Adam's alumni profile.
