Tuesday 28 April 2026 Papanui infrastructure projectsWork is underway right now on the new wastewater storage facility, which will reduce the frequency of wastewater overflow issues and support the development of around 1400 new homes between Grassmere and Cranford streets. Our contractor Fulton Hogan is planning a free community BBQ in the area, and if you want to ask questions about the project, meet the team or even just grab a bite, you're more than welcome to join us. We'll send you an invitation soon – watch this space. Traffic on Grassmere StreetWe've heard your feedback, and you should be noticing that traffic movements are a lot slower on Grassmere Street. Our new traffic management plan is in place, which limits vehicles to 30 kilometres per hour during periods with heavier traffic volumes, and prevents them from crossing the cycleway during the school run (8.30am–9am and 3pm–3.30pm). The number of vehicles passing through should drop significantly once we've brought in all the gravel we need to prepare the site for construction of the new wastewater storage facility. New access roadWe’re still looking into options for a new road in the area to minimise effects on the local road network as a result of new housing construction in the area. This project will include land acquisition, design and construction phases. We'll provide more information as we confirm plans. Project updatesWe’ll continue to share updates as this work progresses, particularly ahead of key construction phases. The latest information will be available on our website, and further newsletters will be sent as needed. Stay in touchWe'll continue to email you about any significant project updates. You can also stay up-to-date by visiting our Council website project webpage, which has all project information. Thanks for your patience while we complete this work. You received this email because you are subscribed to updates from Christchurch City Council.
