ARTS NEWSLETTER November 2012

Can you believe it’s November now and summer is nearly upon us? Judging by the number of people wandering around Central with cameras hanging from their necks, the visitor season is definitely here.
We have had a busy time getting the new Central Otago Arts Trail up and running which is very exciting and now it's all ready to go. The brochure looks fantastic and the Arts Trail webpage
is functioning really well. There are 45 artists represented from across the region. We even have a mobile phone version of the Arts Trail webpage so you can be away from home and check details online. There is nothing quite like visiting the studio of a creative person to experience ‘how they do what they do’ and to marvel at their inspiring surroundings. We encourage you to take the opportunity to visit our local artists by picking up an Arts Trail brochure along with a Central Otago wine guide. The combination of these two makes for a great day out. All Central Otago I-Sites have the Arts Trail brochures available and
they will also be in cafes, and at cellar doors and accommodation providers over the next few days.
As you will see below, there are a number of good things happening around the region over the next month. ‘Thyme Festival’ runs from 10th - 18th November, with a fine program of events and workshops running throughout the week. There will be painting classes, theatre sports and, Kapa Haka, to name just a few – and a highlight will be an afternoon of Shakespeare skits presented at Jolendale Park this Sunday. I’m running a Pecha Kucha Night which is an artists’ talk evening on Saturday 17th November. Each artist is allowed six minutes to talk and present 20 images, which will give you an insight into
why, how and what they do in a very entertaining style. Please come along as these evenings are always great fun. All the information is on the Thyme Festival website, click here.
That’s all from me - it will officially be summer by the time I send the next arts newsletter and Christmas will be just around the corner. How fast has this year gone by? Cheers Maxine
