ST. AUGUSTINE'S HISTORIC ABBOTT TRACT

The Abbott Mansion

Since 1973, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has recognized
Preservation Month in May to promote historic places to instill national and community pride, promote heritage tourism, and show the social and economic benefits of historic preservation.

St. Johns County is home to over 50 sites recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, including individually listed properties and contributing structures in St. Augustine's historic districts. A study found that 22% of all homes in St. Augustine are historical, making it the city with the most historic homes in the nation.

The Abbott Tract in Uptown St. Augustine has the highest percentage of pre-1930s buildings in the city with 80 of them constructed before the turn of the century. This seventeen-block district is named after St. Augustine’s first female land developer, Lucy Bellenger Abbott, a spinster who settled here in 1861.

and how it's thriving today.
