November Newsletter

It’s November and the end of the semester is in sight with only six more weeks until winter break! Before you go into finals mode, be sure to register for your Spring 2020 classes. Registration is open November 4 – 15. Check-out the registration timeline and other end-of-semester deadlines on the Registrar’s website. As always, program advisors are available daily on the second floor of Doti Hall to answer all your registration and advising questions.

Center for Freedom of Expression and Media Integrity Launch Event

The School of Communication is celebrating the official launch of the new Center for Freedom of Expression and Media Integrity with an evening featuring special guests Robert Gibbs, Press Secretary to President Barack Obama, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former Press Secretary to President Donald Trump. Through events like this, we aim to promote the ideals of free speech and model civil discourse for the Chapman community. Please join us for this exciting event at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library.

Join the SoC Student Advisory Board

The School of Communication is looking for 1-2 new members for our Student Advisory Board! The Student Advisory Board (SAB) advocates for the needs of students in the School of Communication by serving as the student voice to the administration, representing the School to various constituencies, and generating and implementing programs and initiatives designed to enhance the student experience. 

HCOM Student gets first publication

Madison Murphy ’19 (M.S. ’21) recently had her first manuscript accepted for publication in the journal Communication Research Reports. The paper, "Testing the Personal Report of Communication Apprehension (PRCA-24) Ability to Predict Social Interaction: A Behavioral Test of the Predictive Power of the Communication Apprehension Measure" looks at how the PRCA-24, one of the most widely recognized measurement instruments in the field of Communication, can be used to predict real behavior in social settings. This paper was the result of an Independent Study project that Madison completed with her faculty advisor, Dr. Keith Weber.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts Spring 2020 Internships
The application for Spring 2020 internship opportunities at Segerstrom Center for the Arts are now open. Internships are available in development, education, guest services, marketing, and theater operations.

ANA Educational Foundation’s MADE Internship
MADE is an internship program for undergraduate students interested in the marketing and advertising industry. Successful applicants will be placed in one of over 50 marketing/advertising/media companies. The application deadline is January 10.

Hoag Classic Brand Ambassador
The brand ambassadors will assist in the promotion of the Hoag Classic at locations across Orange County, including public golf courses, large events, high traffic areas, etc. The brand ambassadors will be the face of the tournament and tasked with engaging community members to build excitement during the months/weeks leading up to the event.
