Sensoria™, MISTRAS’ innovative 24/7/365 wind blade monitor, has allied with Danish offshore turbine specialist Bladena to deliver innovative solutions that help maximize offshore wind blade integrity and uptime. This effort combines Sensoria’s blade monitoring technology with Bladena’s structural enforcement retrofit solutions, providing customers with a robust, all-in-one blade integrity solution.

This collaboration focuses on providing the offshore wind market with solutions for the key challenges wind turbine blades face operating in harsh environmental conditions. By reducing the need for traditional, manual spot inspections and extending the operational lifetimes of offshore wind blades, the Sensoria™-Bladena collaboration will help decrease wind energy costs related to manual labor and unnecessary, prolonged blade downtime.

MISTRAS is performing rope access work for a wind energy customer in Vancouver Island, Canada to address leading-edge blade erosion and blade repair. With more than 50 wind turbines on site, the team is delivering leading-edge protection on the blades and repairs to address issues caused by lightning strikes, trailing edge splits, and traverse cracks. With one month still to go, and nearly surpassing last year’s total of 13 towers, the team is not only taking on more work as needed but demonstrating efficiency and intelligence. Visual inspections are a proven method for identifying issues along an asset. However, the emergence of augmented reality (AR) goggles provides users with the technology to help visualize critical inspection needs. MISTRAS is utilizing this technology and deploying it across piping/pipeline jobs to help optimize and ultimately improve the inspection process. The goggles are designed to create a simulated grid on pipes, elbows, tees, and reducers, and to help replace rulers and tape measures. When conducting inspections near hot assets in high-temperature areas, MISTRAS can typically be on-site for extended periods of time, but, with AR goggles, that time is significantly reduced. MISTRAS performed offshore and fabric maintenance work in the Gulf of Mexico and was recognized by British Petroleum (BP) at the Supplier Summit 2022 for outstanding contribution to continuous improvement. Largely acknowledged by BP for MISTRAS Digital^®, our paperless inspection data reporting tool, this was the first time the tool was used for offshore and fabric maintenance projects. In addition to MISTRAS Digital^®, the team was also recognized for executing a mentorship program to curb language barriers, and for identifying gaps in process safety training. MISTRAS’ rope access team from Trainer, PA – USA worked to install access lines for a popular entertainment event at a well-known stadium in the Northeast. The lines were installed for the local riggers in the buildings’ steel superstructure canopy which rests about 200 feet above the stadium floor. The team served as a standby rescue unit until the conclusion of the event.

A MISTRAS employee was working on site and quickly identified a potentially dangerous situation. When performing a walk down of a tank job, the employee noticed a weld on a pair of steps had broken loose from the side of the tank. He immediately stepped up by using his Stop Work Authority and contacted the appropriate site personnel. By doing so, the area was flagged, entry was cut off, and repairs were planned. This is a prime example of an employee using their authority to prevent a potentially harmful safety incident from unfolding.

MISTRAS recently presented at the SPRINT Robotics World Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Products and Systems employees, along with some Corporate personnel took a stroll down memory lane at MISTRAS’ corporate world headquarters in Princeton Junction, NJ – USA. They submitted pictures of themselves as babies, with the idea being to guess who's who. This fun contest provided a blast from the past, offered a look at some of their precious memories, and gave them  a chance to reminisce while enjoying some refreshments.

Some takeaways from this release include:

• Air, car, and hotel charges are processed and expensed through SAP Concur
• No change to how travel is booked
• Corporate cards will be issued to all eligible travelers
• Individual rewards program for air, car, and hotel still applies
