Papanui infrastructure projects update

Kia ora,

We’re getting in touch to share the latest updates about our work on Grassmere Street. Work is continuing on the new wastewater storage facility, which is expected to be completed in late 2027.

Activity on site has been minimal for the last few weeks while we allowed the foundation base to settle. In the coming weeks we'll test the foundation to make sure it's ready for piling, which is expected to start in September.

Shared path investigations this week

On Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 August, crews will carry out investigative trenching beside the main construction site near Papanui Stream. The shared path will stay open, but a short section will be narrowed while work takes place. 

If you're cycling or using an e-scooter, please slow down and take extra care when passing through the area.

Temporary path closure

A makeshift path alongside Papanui Stream will close from 27 August 2026 until 31 March 2027 to allow for excavation and pipe connection works. Residents who use this route will need to use alternative paths during this time. If the area can be reopened earlier, it will be.

Piling works starting in September

Piling works are scheduled to begin on 2 September 2026 and will continue for up to six weeks. Crews will install foundation piles using a method designed to minimise noise and vibration compared with traditional piling techniques. While some nearby residents may notice increased noise and vibration, efforts will be made to reduce disruption as much as possible. 

Please take care around the work site

Residents, pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to:

• Follow all temporary traffic management and speed restrictions.
• Be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the site.
• Slow down when passing site access points to help keep everyone safe.
