Challenging a competitors advertising claim

A key component of the advertising self-regulation system is the Ad Standards Industry Jury, which considers complaints by one advertiser against another in relation to truth, accuracy and the legality of their advertisements. One of the greatest benefits to advertisers is the ability to clarify the issues and understand the substantiation of any claims, in a fraction of the time required for litigation.

Husband and wife

Complaints about an advertisement for an insurance company were dismissed by the Ad Standards Community Panel. Complainants were concerned about the use of the phrase “the wife” but the Community Panel found this was not discriminatory to women.
