Welcome Back!

We hope you had a restful winter break! The Office of Sustainability plans to distribute our newsletter at least once a month this year, so stay tuned for resources and upcoming events related to sustainability.

Happy Black History Month!

Much of the environmental justice movement in the United States is interconnected with Black history, so we honor Black History Month this February and all those who have contributed to the movement! Check out our Instagram post on Black Environmentalists to Know About and stay tuned for more intersectional content this month. Also, join us in celebrating Chapman's 28 Days of Black History Month to deepen your understanding of Black culture, influence, and history.

Sustainable Goals for the New Year

January may be over, but it's not too late to make New Year's resolutions! Here are some suggestions for lowering your environmental impact this semester:

- Shop local: Check out the Orange Farmer’s Market for fresh produce and more!

- Shop secondhand: Orange has many antique and secondhand stores for clothes, decorations, and furniture.

- Switch up your commute: Consider biking, walking, or taking the bus or Chapman shuttles to class. Chapman offers sustainable transportation incentives for faculty, staff, and commuter students. For details, go to the Human Resources Rideshare Incentives page.

- Cook sustainably: Eating more plant-based ingredients can reduce your environmental footprint. Read our most recent blog post for resources on plant-based cooking!
