Research Spotlight![]() Dr. Hannah Ball, Dr. Tayah Renea Wozniak (PhD, ’22), and PhD student Cailin M. Kuchenbecker published a study in Journal of Health Communication showcasing work with undergraduate SCC 400 students on a campaign to combat college student Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy. Prior to the vaccine’s FDA approval, the authors conducted focus groups with college students, which uncovered concerns about vaccine safety, efficacy, cost, and politicization, as well as perceived barriers to accessing information and the vaccine itself. Guided by this formative research, the authors and SCC 400 students developed and pilot tested a two-week peer-to-peer campaign called “Shot Talk” during the Spring 2021 semester. Pretest-posttest survey results revealed increases in safety-related attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and awareness of information regarding Covid-19 vaccination, providing preliminary evidence of effectiveness. Results offer implications for strategic messaging in contexts inundated with misinformation. ![]() Looking for Internships or Jobs?![]() For up-to-date information on events, internships, and special announcements, join the School of Communication Slack page!
