What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - September
. Thomas Gilchrist and Sons of the Maniototo - Book
Launch It has always been an absolute treat to pop into Gilchrist's Store on trips through the Maniototo, and now a book on the history of the store has been published. Written by author Paula Wagemaker, local historian Judy Beck and Gilchrist Store business owner John Hellier, Thomas Gilchrist and Sons of the Maniototo tells the 125-year history of the establishment, the stories of the generations of family who operated it and the community it serviced. A community celebration and book launch is happening on Sunday 3rd September in the Oturehua Community Hall. For further information email [email protected] or [email protected]. You may have noticed a series of poems pop up in the windows of cafes and stores over the last month? This is the work of a local group, The Poetry Party, who gather on occassion to share their works and explore the delights of the written word. The Poetry Party marked National Poetry Day, (August 25th), by collating and distributing a number of their own and others poetical works for people to read and ponder as they go about their day. I hope you all took a moment to stop and read some of the works on display. Tickets are on sale now for the highly anticipated At the
