What's On October 2022 and beyond

Welcome from the Principal

The first half of term has been a wonderful start to the year for the charity.  Courses are well subscribed; the café is producing delicious food and workplace opportunities for adults with learning disabilities; and the ‘Inspired by Lindow’ exhibition has been overwhelmingly well received.

We are proud that we are currently working in partnership with the following charities and community programmes:

The Rossendale Trust – Adults with learning disabilities

Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank

Transition Wilmslow – Festival of Nature: ‘Inspired by Lindow’ exhibition.

Cheshire East Council – Adults with learning disabilities

Cheshire Police – Cybercrime prevention

Cheshire East Trading Standards – Scams Awareness

New Leaf & Springboard – Employment Support

The weather is becoming more autumnal, and the evenings are getting darker earlier.  This has resulted in a greater demand for spaces in the carpark.  Therefore, it is imperative that everyone makes the effort to park carefully within the spaces.  There have been several occasions of careless parking resulting in near misses by drivers trying to manoeuvre in and out of restricted spaces.

We are now taking bookings for spring term courses which commence from Tuesday January 3rd onwards. Please remember to book early if you want to avoid disappointment because some classes were oversubscribed in September.

With kindest regards,

Paula Riordan

Progression

An Exhibition of work by Guild Art students Stuart Mollison and Andy Jeffrey

Sunday 16th October to Sunday 6th November 2.00 – 4.00pm

Two of The Guild’s Art students have an exhibition at the Bollington Arts Centre next month.

Entitled ‘Progression’, it shows how their work has developed over a period of time guided by mutual encouragement and by their teacher at The Guild, Anna Riordan.

Stuart Mollison

Stuart trained as a horticulturalist and often uses landscape and plants as a source material with the shapes, forms, textures and colours fascinating him.  Urban sketching, buildings and architecture are another recurring theme.  Pen and ink wash, watercolour, mixed media and acrylics are his materials of choice.  Recent exhibitions include MODA Manchester, The Stockport Open and Blue & Berry Gallery, Chelford.

Andy Jeffrey

Andy largely takes his inspiration from the countryside around him, the people he meets and fellow artists, however, recently interiors have started to feature.  One of his Lockdown pictures “The Covid Captive’ was selected by Grayson Perry during the second series of his Art Club and is currently on exhibition at Bristol City Art Gallery.  The current series of ‘Wood’ pictures was inspired by the way that light filters through windows in early spring and late autumn with the wood pattern items leaning on Braque and Picasso during their early collage phase.

Recent exhibitions include MODA Manchester and Macclesfield Art Trail at The Park Tavern and Bristol City Art Gallery.

Please feel free to visit @andy.p.jeffreystudio for the complete selection of the “Wood Series” together with the option to purchase limited edition signed prints.

BBC Breakfast are helping to keep the conversation going with their wider piece this morning on hygiene poverty, it’s effects and impact.

@jaynemccubbintv visited us to see Team Tuesday in action last week and we were delighted to share our story. Here’s a clip - it’s National Hygiene week a great time to donate. Everything you give to us helps local people in financial crisis. We support 32 charities, month in month out, including women, young people, schools, street homeless and food banks.

The next meeting of the Gardening Club is on Thursday 20th October at 7.30pm.

We are looking forward to Tracy Foster’s talk on How to Plant a Beautiful Mixed Border. Tracy is an RHS Gold Medal winning garden designer, creating gardens since 2002. She has four gold medals and won the People’s Choice Garden twice. Her favourite projects include being commissioned to design a garden for ‘Hedgehog Street’ which has been installed at the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr in Yorkshire and producing a garden to celebrate Yorkshire’s famous Bronte sisters at the Chelsea flower show.

Tracy also works as a botanical tour guide, author, and mentor for aspiring garden designers. She runs garden design workshops for the Royal Horticultural Society and lectures onboard cruise ships.

She has a degree in Plant Biology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a Diploma in Garden Design from the Institute of Garden Design.
