Cream chargers, red flags

A TikTok ad for Mr Nangs, a cream charger delivery service, raised concerns about promoting recreational misuse of nitrous oxide. 

The Community Panel noted that while the chargers are legally sold for whipping cream, it is also commonly misused as a recreational drug that can lead to adverse health effects. The Panel found that the use of the slang term “nang” along with references to “24/7” delivery suggested and encouraged unsafe use of the product.

Safe and sound

A Virgin Airlines TV ad raised concerns over the lack of hearing protection shown around an aircraft.  

The Community Panel found that the scene was highly exaggerated and unrealistic, and that most people would not interpret it as encouraging unsafe behaviour.

Risky ride

A series of Instagram ads for Flight Risk e-bikes raised concerns for encouraging dangerous behaviour.  

The Community Panel found that the ads depicted actions that were against road safety regulations and were likely to encourage unsafe use of the e-bikes.

A TV ad for Caruso’s Natural Health raised concerns for potentially suggesting that women should feel ashamed of their natural bodily functions.  

The Community Panel determined that the list of symptoms was relevant to the product and was presented in a factual manner that did not demean women.

A Facebook ad for the Bendigo Queer Arts Festival raised concerns about the use of a sexualised image for an “all ages” event. 

After review, the Community Panel found the ad to not contain any sexual or inappropriate content.
