What's On in Central Otago - October

We have been busily planning the inaugural Alexandra Buskers Festival – a three day event happening in conjunction with this year's Alexandra Thyme Festival. We are starting to get an exciting and eclectic list of performers together and would love to hear from anyone interested in taking part in these festivities. Participation is not limited to musicians - mime, magic, reading poetry and anything performance worthy is encouraged. People can present for 5 mins, or as long as they wish, and school aged pupils are invited to give it a go. Join in or come along and experience what we anticipate will be a vibrant and entertaining number of days. The Alexandra Buskers Festival will kick off with an opening on the 31st October, 11am at Alexandra Community House where Mayor Tim will perform - everyone is welcome and entry is
free. A celebration of art, food, wine and heritage is on now at Across the Bridge in Bannockburn. Organisers have put together a programme of exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, poetry and more - all to be enjoyed in the stunning wine country environs. Not to be missed is 'Poets in the Pub' at the Bannockburn Hotel on Saturday the 29th of September. Go along to see what promises to be an inspiring performance by celebrated poets Gregory O'Brien,
Jenny Bornholdt and Annabel Wilson. Details on additional Across the Bridge activities, including the Arts Trust and the CODC Cromwell Youth Art Project, can be found below. Happening at Arthurs and Central Cinema next week is the premier screening of NZ film 'Stray'. Stray is described by the Dominion Post as being "An indelibly beautiful, human and near - perfect film". Set in the South Island and featuring scenes from the wintry landscape of Central Otago,
Stray is about two strangers who struggle to repair their broken pasts. A young man on parole after serving time for attempting to murder the man who killed his girlfriend and a woman, released from a psychiatric facility far from her homeland. These two damaged strangers cross paths in the mountains in winter and fall into a complex intimate relationship, putting to the test their capacity to trust and heal. Q&A sessions with local Central Otago actor Sean Crawford and director Dustin Fenely will happen following both screenings. Edinburgh Realty, in conjunction with the Central Otago Art Society, are bringing to Cromwell the first
ever Edinburgh Central Art Awards. Entries to these awards close on the 23rd October and an exhibition of these works will be open for public to view from the 9th - 11th of November at the Lake Dunstan Boat Club. Enjoy the onset of spring and all the wonderful things on offer in Central Otago in October.
