May 2022:  A Special Mothers' Day Issue!

This month, I'm excited to share about the launch of a new Community called "Second Mothers", for foster and adoptive Moms. We offer resources, books, blogs and a special Bible study for Second Mothers. Women of faith worldwide have answered the call to care for a child born to another, and we want to support them on the journey.  And I'm proud to serve on their Board.

Open Adoption: A Changed Reality

My article called "A Changed Reality" was published as the headliner this month at Adopting.com. You can check it out here.

As with all we do, the idea is to help people to understand open adoption and how it can be such a positive game-changer for all involved.

Help us fund our 'ADOPTION CALL TO ACTION'!

Last year, we kicked off our book fundraising campaign.  You can watch the 30-minute live session here.  Tune in to hear John & Lysa tell their own personal stories. The three of us together make up the adoption triad -- a birthmother, an adoptee and an adoptive parent.

The book is underway; this effort will help cover the publishing costs.

Join the Campaign!  You can donate here by clicking on https://www.unplannedgood.org/fundraising

OPEN ADOPTION; Not Like the Olden Days!

All of this is about spreading the word about open adoption. This is not your mother's adoption. The 1970s and 80s were all about closed adoptions. Then we discovered the beauty of open adoption.

We're hoping to publish the book by the end of the year... please wish us luck as we go through the writing process. NOTE:  If you signed up to be on the book team, you will see the first chapters very soon! Please know that your time and feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Phrase of the Day:  Open Adoption

Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.

A Reference Guide for Families

Here’s a guide to open adoption and how to make it work, from the match period through common post-adoption bumps. It includes tips on how to keep the focus on the child’s best interests.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Fewer than 0.5% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
  • When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
  • There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.

About Unplanned Good

We promote adoption as a positive option for those facing unplanned pregnancies. It can be so very good (and beautiful!) for all involved.

Unplanned Good is reaching out to both teens and their parents, to let them know that adoption is an option. Studies have shown that girls are 50% more likely to see their pregnancy through and make an adoption plan when an adult suggests this path.

Please visit our site, and encourage others to see it. Read the encouraging, heartfelt stories there.  Send in your own story, and ask a friend to do the same.
