Victoria's Pride Trader
Update #1

Thank you for joining us or staying on to be the first to receive updates for what we're sure we'll be another amazing event in 2023!

That's right - Minister for Equality Harriet Shing recently confirmed the street party will be an annual event, held across the state for the next four years to support and celebrate our rainbow communities.

Victoria’s Pride (previously known as Melbourne Pride) will kick off in December with a series of regional activities, culminating in a one-day street party extravaganza in Melbourne’s iconic Gertrude and Smith Street precinct on Sunday 12 February 2023.

We were blown away by the passion and involvement from Gertrude and Smith Street traders in 2022 and we can't wait to work with you all to create an even bigger and better event this year. Thank you to everyone who has provided us with notes and feedback - we have heard you and will take your suggestions into consideration.

It's been exciting to see so many new businesses popping up in the area! If you know of any other traders in the precinct who would like to be kept up to date, please help spread the love and direct them to sign-up here.

We recommend you forward this email to members of your staff, and if you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please don't hesitate to contact the Victoria's Pride team at vicpride@midsumma.org.au!

Stay tuned as we will continue to send updates every 2-3 weeks as details transpire.

Melbourne Pride - a review

The event held in Feb this year was incredible, with over 67,000 people estimated to have attended throughout the day! Some of our attendees called it "truly the best festival ever staged", "the best pride event I have ever been to", and "the best celebration our community has had in forever". Fantastic support was shown for the event to return, with huge effort from many community members and traders alike to share their experience and enthusiasm.

Some key stats...

- Average attendee spending at the Festival and local area on the day was $175

- Most attendees (41%) were aged 25-34, while 26% were aged 35-44

- 94% of attendees live in the Melbourne Metropolitan area

Seeking spaces!

We're on the look-out for unique and unusual spaces to help anchor the event to the streetscape even more.

Do you have a safe rooftop garden space that is open-air and at least partially visible from the street? Perhaps you have a large window that can be activated?

If this sounds like you, please email vicpride@midsumma.org.au!

Gertrude Street voted 2nd coolest street in the world

A survey of 20,000 people worldwide has declared Gertrude Street the second coolest street in the world!

"It's Fitzroy funk, but with noticeable polish".

TimeOut cited the wealth of independent retail, drinking and dining joints as an important factor in the result - that's you!

Well done to all the traders who made this happen.
