Senior School: Student Well-Being & Student Voice - What the Data Reveals
Senior School parents are invited to join members of the Senior School leadership team on Tuesday, October 6, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, in the Bains Amphitheatre for the Senior School Learning Together session: Student Well-Being & Student Voice - What the Data Reveals. In this session, hear about findings from various data points collected last year on our students' well-being. We'll be talking through areas of strengths and growth, how the Senior School is actioning findings, and strategies to partner with families to best support students and set them up for success. There will also be a coffee social hosted before the session, at 8:00 am in the Bains Amphitheatre. Register here.
Senior School Coffee & Conversations: Strengths-Based Parenting
As we begin a new school year, Senior School parents are invited to two upcoming, informal conversations with the Student Services Department to reflect on what it means to raise confident, capable young people in a high-achieving environment.
- Grade 8 & 9 parents: Thursday, October 22, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge
- Grade 10-12 parents: Thursday, October 29, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge
Together, we will explore how a strengths-based approach can help you remain focused on your teen's character, interests, relationships, and well-being, rather than becoming overly preoccupied with performance or outcomes. No registration is required, simply drop in to join the discussion. We look forward to connecting!

Notices - Action Items
Test of the School’s Special Alert Communication Protocol
The School uses a third-party system, Regroup, to send special alerts to members of the community in an emergency. Most commonly, this is to announce a school closure due to inclement weather. On Friday, October 2, at 3:45 pm, the School will test the special alert communication protocol with all parents.
A “TEST” message will be sent via email, text, and voice message to the contact information listed in MySchool. The message will make it clear that it is a “test” message only. If you do not receive either the email, text or voice message, please check the contact information listed in the Student Information Portal, MySchool. If a change is needed, click on “My Contact Details - Edit”, make the necessary change and “Save”. For detailed instructions on how to update your contact information, click here.
Financial Assistance for CHS Families
Current families whose financial circumstances have changed recently are encouraged to apply for financial assistance. Applications, through Apple Financial Services, for the 2027-2028 school year are due Tuesday, December 1, 2026. Details of the Financial Assistance Program can be found in the School's Financial Assistance Policy.
A reminder that families currently receiving financial assistance must also apply for the next school year by December 1.
The application fee for all CHS families will be waived. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with Karen Choi, Director, Finance & Operations.
Coffee with Admissions
We know that many students and families come to Crofton House through word-of-mouth from our community members. On Monday, October 19, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, CHS families are invited to join the Enrolment Management & Admissions Department in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge to learn about the admissions journey for all grade levels, as well as financial assistance options for prospective Grade 8 students. Register here to attend.

Thriving in Possibility: Strategic Plan Updates
Year Three Progress
The 2025-2026 school year was the third year of implementation for the strategic plan, Thriving in Possibility. The five strategies in the plan have been translated into action over the past two years, and we are pleased to share our progress through Year Three.
Year Four Objectives
As we move into the fourth year of our strategic plan, the Board of Governors has approved the Year Four Implementation Plan, which will guide our work in 2026-2027. This plan sets out initiatives for all five strategies: Foundational Well-Being, Embracing Diversity, Purposeful Learning, Meaningful Partnerships, and Active Stewardship. These initiatives will continue to advance the strides made last year and further our commitments to Belonging, Agility, and Responsibility.
Honouring Truth and Reconciliation at Crofton House

Yesterday, Crofton House was closed in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, providing our community with an opportunity to honour and reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools. Throughout this week—and in the weeks surrounding September 30—students have participated in learning and activities connected to Truth and Reconciliation, including a Monday assembly for Grades 6–12 students where we welcomed Elder Larry Grant and Scott Steedman to speak about their book Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong. Students and staff were also invited to wear orange shirts on Tuesday, September 29, as a visible gesture of remembrance and solidarity. Families are encouraged to explore the list of related resources available on the School website to continue this important reflection and work beyond campus.

PA Events Expression of Interest to Volunteer
Right now, the PA is collecting "expressions of interest" to see what kinds of events parents might like to help with (this isn't an official sign-up yet, just a way to let us know you are interested). Please take a moment to look at the opportunities available to see all the great ways you can get involved with our school community, and complete the expression of interest form.
CHS Community Book Club: A New Season of Reading

At the first CHS Community Book Club meeting of the year, enthusiastic readers selected a ‘beach read’ to help hold on to the warmth of summer just a little longer. The variety of stories sparked a lively and engaging discussion, with plenty of new reading recommendations shared along the way. Thank you again to Ching Chen for her continued leadership of the Book Club.
Mark your calendars for the next CHS Community Book Club on Wednesday, November 4, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the Archives Room (before the entrance to Manrell Hall, on the left-hand side). The book for this meeting is Whistler by Ann Patchett, which follows a woman whose seemingly ordinary life is disrupted by an unexpected encounter, prompting her to reflect on love, loss, and the choices that shape our lives. All CHS parents and alumnae are invited—free to drop in or Sign Up here.
Note: The evening book club has been on hiatus for the past year due to low interest. If you are interested in an evening book club next year, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to auxiliary@croftonhouse.ca. |
