Happy New Year!

The November 2021 Import-Export report shows total imports down 6.1% for the month compared to November 2020. Recall that November 2020 was a very strong month for imports, with nearly 3.5 million barrels, up 24% compared to 2.8 million barrels in November 2019. Therefore, we are comparing 2021 volumes to extremely strong volumes for imports for November 2020. Import growth for November 2021 compared to November 2019 is a more realistic comparison, up 16.8%.

January through November 2021 (YTD), imports are up 9.1% compared to the same months in 2020, and up 7.4% compared to the same months in 2019.

Mexican import growth has slowed but is still up 2.1% compared to November 2020 and up 13.3% YTD vs. the same months last year.
