Olinda Precinct Projects Community Update
October 2025

A number of projects are underway at the Olinda Precinct, to provide more opportunities for people to connect with nature when visiting the Dandenong Ranges on Wurundjeri Country. Find out more about these below.

$2 million boost for Stage 2 works

Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos has announced $2 million to help fund the stage two works at the park, increasing the scope of planned works to include new amenities and improved pathways for visitors.

Stage 2 upgrades include a new toilet block located close to the playspace, carparking improvements, new shelter facilities, landscaping, and a connected pathway to the Olinda township.

Importantly it also allows for the creation of a formalised entry and exit point to Olinda-Monbulk Road which will improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, while stormwater drainage works will prevent water from pooling in the carpark.

Refined scope

With the addition of more funding, the scope has been expanded to now include:

  • A new toilet block near the playspace, so families can easily access these facilities while enjoying the area.
  • Upgrade and formalisation of the park entry, central carpark and eastern carpark including defined parking spaces and DDA spaces suitable for all-abilities access.
  • New shelters to service the eastern oval.
  • Removal of the yellow building, which is in very poor condition. Its removal will allow for additional carparking space.
  • A drainage system from the carpark to manage stormwater and improve drainage within the main carparking area.
  • Access pathways connecting the site to the Olinda township have already been improved to provide better accessibility for pedestrians.
  • Extension of the ball protection net (subject to design and Council approval).

Parks Victoria are currently working with Yarra Ranges Council on a planning permit for the works.

The tender process for construction of the works is due to begin later this year with construction expected to start mid-2026.

The project timeline is subject to environmental, cultural heritage and statutory assessments and approvals, as well as on-ground and construction industry conditions.
