Purposeful Parenting Resources

Recentering After the Holidays

As the post-holiday quiet sets in, parents often find themselves both relieved and reflective. This time of year is an opportunity to look inward, not just to recharge, but to recalibrate how family life is shared and structured. Read more.

Digital Technology and Children's Play

UNICEF has published its work on digital technology and children’s play. While the topic is on digital technologies more broadly, it does have a focus on video games. The results of this report have provided some sound advice for students and are aligned with CHS’s approaches. Read more.

Enrolment Agreement and Tuition Deposit Due Before February 1

Enrolment for the 2025-2026 school year is happening now. The process consists of two steps; both must be completed by Saturday, February 1, to ensure a place at CHS in September 2025:

  1. Complete the 2025-2026 Enrolment Questionnaire available on the MySchool Student Information portal.
  2. Pay the tuition deposit billed to student accounts on January 9, 2025.

All documentation, including the Financial Agreement, is on the My CHS Community Portal's Enrolment, Tuition and Billing page and can be accessed any time of the year. For further information, please see the email sent to all families on January 8.

Register for Senior School Trivia Night

Join the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary at the Senior School Pop Culture Trivia Night on Wednesday, February 12 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in Manrell Hall! Families are invited to attend with parents, students and siblings (age 13 and up). Refer to the email for more details. Please note that the registration is extended until Wednesday, January 29.

Updating Your Contact Information for Weather-Related Schedule Changes

Depending on conditions, the School may be required to modify the schedule or programming for the day, starting later or ending earlier, or call a snow day and close the campus. Parents and staff are notified of changes via text, email and voice messages using our notification provider, Regroup.

The School needs to have the most current contact information (stored in MySchool), particularly in the event of an emergency or change in schedule or program due to weather. If there has been a change in your address, email address or telephone/cellphone number, you can update your contact information in MySchool. Read more.

Notices - For Information

Emergency Preparedness Resources for Parents

At CHS, emergency drills are part of our annual planning. Students and employees regularly practice what to do in many different emergency situations, both those that involve leaving the buildings and those that include staying safe when locked inside. The effectiveness of our response to any emergency hinges on parents and guardians being knowledgeable of what is happening on campus and their role in the plan. Current emergency procedures are outlined in the Parent & Student Handbook. Also, be sure to watch the video that describes what parents need to know about the procedure for picking up their child in an emergency.

Year of the Snake Lunar New Year Celebration

Families are invited to celebrate the Year of the Snake with CHS parents, alumnae, and staff on Friday, February 7, at Sun Sui Wah Restaurant in Vancouver. See the email sent on January 21 for further details, and to purchase a ticket and RSVP by Wednesday, February 5. We look forward to seeing you at this fun celebration!

Thanks to the Lunar New Year event committee, including both CHS parents and staff, for all their work to make this event a success. (Committee Members: Alice You, Chair; Lily Shi, Co-Chair; Lily Crowe, Associate Director, Intercultural Relations; Wenjuan Du; Kelly Eng, President, CHS Alumnae Association; Glenn Harrop; Sarah Lo, Director, CHS Alumnae Association; Jonathan Lu; Alina Spantulescu, Coordinator, Head Office; Vanessa Wong).

Save the Date: Community Celebration Event

On Thursday, February 20, the School will host its annual gathering for staff, past staff, parents and alumnae to join and celebrate our community. As we approach the School’s birthday in March, this is an opportunity to connect and honour our history, appreciate the present, and look ahead to our future. Learn more and RSVP through the formal invitation coming to all families next week.

Transition to E-Tax Receipt System

We are transitioning to an e-tax receipt system this fiscal year. From now on, tax receipts will be sent to the email address we have on file. Tax receipts for one-time donations made between July and December 2024 will be issued by the end of February 2025. Consolidated receipts (recurring monthly installments) for 2024 will still be mailed to your address. If you have any questions or need to update your email address, please contact Tianpei Chen, Manager, Database & Donor Relations, Advancement.

If you haven’t had a chance to contribute to the 2024/2025 Annual Fund and would like to receive a 2024 tax receipt, please note that all donations made by February 28, 2025, will qualify for a 2024 tax receipt.

Community Connections with Canuck Place

Over the holiday season and into the new year, the Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes have been learning about the importance of kindness, and how small acts can make a big difference in the lives of others, with opportunities to hear from, support and visit Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Exploring Characters and Creativity with Writer-in-Residence Lily LaMotte

Junior School students had a fantastic time this week with picture book author and graphic novelist Lily LaMotte, this year’s Writer-in-Residence! Students from Grades 1 to 7 explored five-panel stories, character building, and effective writing time management in dedicated workshops. The Kindergarten classes also enjoyed read-aloud sessions of her books. Stay tuned for a detailed blog on Lily’s visit in the next edition of ECalls!

The courts are calling – basketball season is officially here! The Senior School teams have tipped off following the holiday break, and the Junior School rosters are set to hit the ground running this week. Check out our blog for more details.
