Dear Friend,

The spring semester is in full swing! It is so fun to have our students back on University Hill! A few of you joined us in welcoming our new international students to DBU. I love watching our members interact with the students that each of you support through service, prayer, and generous gifts. It is a tangible reminder to me why the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board exists. Thank you for all that each of you do in the lives of our students. The Lord is using you!

This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board. Here are some practical ways to become involved this spring:

DBU All-University Prayer Requests

Students with Accommodations - Pray for our students who have accommodations for physical conditions. Pray that they will find a network of supportive people across campus who will help them navigate any extra challenges that come up during the semester. Ask the Lord to fully equip our faculty and staff to be able to provide these students with adaptive ways to guide them as they pursue their education. Pray that God will guide them into close friendships with mentors and friends as well as opportunities to share their gifts. Pray that, while at DBU, they will discover their calling that will lead to excellent job offers after graduation.

DBU Student Teachers - We have 30 clinical teachers this semester who are serving in 14 school districts across the DFW Metroplex. We also have 40 Field-Based Learning students who will be serving in Dallas and Grand Prairie ISD classrooms on Tuesday and Thursday each week. We have 15 students in our Reading course, who are serving in DeZavala Elementary in Grand Prairie ISD all semester, tutoring struggling readers. Please pray not only for these students and the impact they will make as they serve their students, but also as they serve the teachers who may or may not know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

FLOW (Free Lunch on Wednesdays) - Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 12:00-1:00 PM, the Women's Auxiliary Board has the privilege of serving lunch to DBU students in partnership with the Baptist Student Ministry. Please email Katy Taylor (katy@dbu.edu), if you would like to join us as we spend time with and serve our DBU students!

International Giveaway Day - International students often arrive with a few suitcases of personal belongings. As you can imagine, they need many other items when they move into an apartment or dorm, that we take for granted. In order to minister to these students, the International Student Services department, under the leadership of Susie Cassel, hosts an “International Giveaway Day” event at the beginning of each semester. Donated items are freely given for international students to outfit their apartments and dorm rooms. It is an opportunity to show love to some of our students who are a long way from home.

Do you have new/gently used household items that you would like to donate? If you have these or any other new/gently used items that you would be willing to donate to our students, we would be happy to take them off your hands and pass them along to help an international student. You can drop the items off at the Women's Auxiliary Board Office in Pilgrim Chapel, Suite 203. We will be accepting donations through Thursday, February 16.

Scholarships are always a great way to support DBU. Students are transformed personally from receiving a Christ-centered higher education at DBU but need a little help financially. To contribute, go to www.dbu.edu/give. Choose "Student Scholarships." You may also send a check in the mail to Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.

Spring 2023 Scholarship Recipients - Due to your generosity, the Women's Auxiliary Board was able to give out four, $3,000 scholarships to students in need for the Spring 2023 semester. Receiving these scholarships allows the recipients to continue to pursue their education without worrying about finances. I cannot thank you enough!

Over the next few months, we will be highlighting each of the 4 recipients of the Women's Auxiliary Board Scholarships! Read below about Jaylon Shoots, a DBU junior from Fort Worth, Texas!

Jaylon Shoots - My name is Jaylon Shoots. I am a Junior from Fort Worth, Texas, and I am currently studying radio, broadcast, and television. I currently sideline report here at DBU for the basketball team, and I am looking to have a career in reporting in sports as well as broadcasting. I also want to start a program to help the youth who need a little motivation in their life. While growing up in Fort Worth, I saw many young lives lost from being a part of a community where there aren't men to help them stay out of the streets. I am determined to make it in life not only for myself, but to show the youth that going to school and achieving your dreams is possible. This scholarship allows me to take care of my financial needs and I cannot thank you enough. I promise that I will not let you down and will continue to let God use me as I strive to achieve my academic and life goals.

33rd Annual Norvell Slater Hymn Sing

Concert and Hymn Sing 1:30 pm

Join us for the 33rd Annual Hymn Sing at Dallas Baptist University! We will sing some of your favorite hymns in our beautiful Pilgrim Chapel on University Hill. Bring your friends, family, or an entire church group; we’d love to host you or a group on Friday, April 21st!
