Newsletter 6 - April 19, 2024

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term Two. I trust that all our families had a wonderful break and that you are now ready for another creative, stimulating and engaging school term.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents who have all welcomed me so warmly to this incredible school. It is a privilege and an honour to be the Principal of Subiaco Primary School. I come to you with a deep passion for learning and a strong belief in the power of education to transform lives.

I am very eager to get to know each and every one of you and I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting classes and chatting to students in the playground over the first few days, getting to know the names behind the enthusiastic, beaming faces. It was lovely to meet so many parents at the assembly on Monday and I am looking forward to working alongside the School Board, the P&C, and our whole school community to achieve the best outcomes for our students.

I’m really looking forward to attending the Interschool Swimming Carnival on Monday 22 April as well as the ANZAC Commemorative Service on Wednesday 24 April. I look forward to seeing many of you at these events next week.

As you may be aware, I have been keeping parents and carers up to date through Compass Newsfeed, with information regarding the Stop-work Action on Tuesday 23 April. The school will remain open, however there will be some disruption to normal teaching and learning programs until 12.30pm, when teachers will be back in their classrooms. We have arranged to provide supervision and modified activities. Please ensure you keep up to date with school Compass Newsfeed, for any further information.

I am so excited to be here, and I can’t wait to start this journey with you all. Thank you for welcoming me into your community.

Warm wishes
Heather McNeil

ANZAC Assembly

Our School Orchestra and both the Junior and Senior Choirs will be performing together at our ANZAC Assembly next Wednesday 24 April, starting at 9:00am in the Undercover Area.

Parents are most welcome to attend the assembly.

We are requesting donations of flowers or greenery on Monday morning. These may be placed in the buckets around the school. Mrs Elliott and students will be creating wreaths for our ANZAC Assembly. Parent volunteers who wish to assist should contact Mrs Elliot directly via email.

Students who attend Scouts or Girl Guides are encouraged to come to school on Wednesday in their Scouts or Girl Guides uniform.

School Photo Day is Coming

School photos will be taken in Week 4 this term. Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a personalised flyer to bring home from Kapture Photography containing your child’s unique codes for ordering school photos online.

Keep Your Flyer Secure
The unique codes contained on the flyer will be issued only once.

Order Early for Sibling Photography
Sibling photos can ONLY be ordered online. Once you receive the personalised flyers for your children, it is imperative that you order your sibling photo early to avoid missing out! There is a physical limit in the school schedule to how many sibling photos can be taken. Once the maximum capacity of sibling orders has been reached, no more sibling orders can be placed. If maximum capacity is not reached, sibling orders close 12.00pm midday sharp, one business day prior to the first photo day.
The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated.

Order Early for discount photo day prices
Order your photos up to 10 calendar days after photo day to receive discount photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately to the school delivery and incur a $30 custom service charge.

Other information
Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please check the FAQ’s on the Kapture website.

The school will notify you when team and special group photos are available to view and purchase on the Kapture website. Please note; class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase.

All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records as well as included in their class group presentation available for purchase to all families. Year 6 Robogals Incursion

Today, our Year 6 girls had the privilege of participating in a Robogals incursion. This event is aimed to inspire girls to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We learned about various engineering disciplines, including chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, structural, and biomedical engineering. We also had the chance to program Lego Mindstorm robots to execute our commands.

Our favourite part of the session was the challenges, especially the "Sumo Smash," where we programmed our robot to knock other teams out of the arena. We thoroughly enjoyed expanding our knowledge of robotics and collaborating with our teams to solve problems. Click HERE for photos.

The new delivery of Music Polos has arrived! If your child requires one for the Anzac Day Service please come to the Uniform Shop or purchase online shop.subiprimarypc.com.au and I will send the Polo to your child’s classroom, keep in mind there is no school on Anzac Day.
