Clinical Trials Day - May 20th

May 20th was Clinical Trials Day. We want to express our gratitude to all clinical research professionals, including the outstanding individuals in the Department of Surgery whose dedication and hard work are advancing medicine and developing new treatment to help patients around the world!

In Case You Missed It

  • Faculty Mentorship/Student Help: The Division of Research is implementing initiatives to organize the process of matching research residents and medical students with faculty members for research opportunities. These opportunities are to be strictly for volunteer work done by the student. Specifics on task work is completely up to the faculty member’s discretion. If you are interested in mentoring, please fill out this Qualtrics survey.
  • NIH Scientific Data Sharing Website: Whether you are involved in an NIH-funded project and want to understand which sharing policies apply to your research and how to comply, or you are a researcher looking to access scientific data from NIH-affiliated repositories, this site is for you. | More information
  • Department of Surgery Intranet Site: Funding Opportunities, Cultural Complications/Grand Rounds/Quality Minute presentations, Surgery Sparks of Gratitude, Global Surgical Programs, Finance/Reimbursement links, DOS Phone list, and resources for logos/fonts/templates. | More Information
  • Abstract Deadlines and Meeting List: List will be updated each week.| More Information

    Upcoming Events

    • Clinical Research Coordinator Enrichment Series: Using Epic for Day-to-Day Conduct of Clinical Research | June 27, 2024, 12-1 pm. Attendees will learn how to use Epic to identify and recruit patients for research studies and link patients to studies once enrolled. Additionally, this session will cover entering study protocol orders (e.g., imaging), how to record, result and review protocol specific labs and other procedures, and communication between clinical providers and the research team.

What Happens If a Due Date Falls on a Weekend?

With summer approaching fast and many holidays coming up, we are discussing due dates and weekends!

For applications at the NIH, the application deadline is automatically extended to the next business day. For example, the May 25, 2024 standard due date for some of our programs falls on a Saturday, which means it slides to Tuesday, May 28, 2024 (since Monday, May 27 is a Federal holiday).

For all other applications, refer to the Request for Application (RFA) or contact the sponsor for more information.

    Early-Stage Research Regulatory Oversight Program

The primary mission of the Early-Stage Research Regulatory Oversight Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin is to collaborate with, and to aid those investigators interested in early-phase research conducted in compliance with all applicable regulations. The Program provides regulatory expertise to support the early-stage development of investigator initiated clinical research at MCW.

The purpose of the Research Oversight Program is to:

    1. Provide education to faculty and staff who hold, or aspire to hold, Food & Drug Administration (FDA) granted Investigational New Drug (IND) and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE).
    2. Register and track investigator held IND and IDE.
    3. Create institutional policies to ensure FDA-regulated research complies with federal regulations.
    4. Serve as liaison to the FDA and the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) for research teams and the institution.
